I agree, but in the other direction -- it's crazy that some of the (modern) Booth bases are as polygon heavy as they are. It's a side effect of trying to make something for everyone + adding customization without dropping fidelity. It's hard to tell people no, this isn't for you.
I figured it by asking friends in the olden days. It's way easier know, with things like MA/VRC Fury/d4rks. I understand you still have to know those things exist, though.
With everything else said, though, ideally you would have some sort of suggestions built into the SDK that could point you in the right direction. Hopefully, in the future, something like that will exist. I know it's overwhelming. I'm not a technical person at all.
a lot of folks believe this, but:
a). that's 30k x 80 more polygons to render in an instance, they aren't "free" as people like to say
b). polygons aren't actually what put most avatars over to VP

re: tutorials --
Many folks on the team held (and continue to hold) a lot of hands through the process. But, in today's world, it's just not possible to create a catch-all video. You have to go out there and do some research. Or ask a friend!
You *shouldn't* have to optimize as much as you do -- but there's no pressure! People just buy *anything* off Booth, slap it on an avatar, and hit go. That's not okay! At some point, even with controls, there's gotta be a point at which things have gone too far.
Why not both? What exactly is the argument against doing that? If you attend events frequently enough that this is something you're passionate about, then you should probably take responsibility for the content you're bringing into those places!
