The number of times I received only a boiled egg, or even only a packet of PB (due to inability to accommodate dietary restrictions) while admitted due to starvation from medical complications… The food services are not okay. I would have starved AGAIN if not for family bringing me food.

Saying you trusted government & public advice that Covid ended in 2022 so you could stop taking precautions and go back to brunch is a Very Vanilla take

Do you know anything about the downsides of solar and batteries? I always wonder about the manufacturing and heavy metals and explosion risks etc. It seems to be overtaking wind, geothermal, microhydro, etc. quickly.

Just a reminder that Covid is nowhere near in the past. We need to keep fighting for clean air, especially in healthcare and schools.

If only the vaccines completely prevented infections - we desperately need proper air filtration and sterilisation to become widespread, especially in healthcare facilities and schools. That would make such a difference with ongoing covid/flu/RSV transmission, and help unburden the hospitals.

On the other hand, no one ever lost money by telling billionaires what they want to hear. The airwaves are full of the oligarchs' minions, reciting their creeds as if these were some kind of arcane truth they've stumbled across. Almost every political conversation is dominated by these elite lies.

Tons of research since 2020 points to Covid causing cognitive decline, affecting memory, attention, and executive function. It’s criminal that schools don’t clean the air and it’s negligent of public health to have led everyone to believe Covid is just a cold when it’s causing so much damage 🧵👇

Vancouver’s Progressive Parties Are Trying to Work Together | The Tyee Three civic parties are limiting their number of candidates in an attempt to win.

After months of behind-the-scenes negotiations — and one public pitch that may or may not have been an ultimatum — Vancouver’s three progressive municipal parties have reached a deal to avoid splitting the vote in October’s election.

The BCNDP is not a progressive political party. Just making that clear in case there was any confusion

“I Have Lost Everything”: The Toll of Cities’ Homeless Sweeps Cities often take belongings — including important documents and irreplaceable mementos — when they conduct sweeps of homeless encampments. ProPublica gave notecards to people across the country so th...

We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.

“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a man in California wrote.

I hear you. I have had to step back a bit, at least for a while. I’m beyond burnt out.

I suggest the “wheels on the bus” test for politicians everywhere.

If you can’t do it because you come across as creepy, weird or awkward, then you shouldn’t be allowed to run.

I guarantee that all the problems in the world would disappear if those who failed the test were kicked out of office.

Kudos. Most people do not have the wherewithal or ability to do this, and that’s part of why they keep getting away with it.

And of course, such options are not even close to available for anyone who’s less privileged. I wish I could have a personal lawyer with me at all medical interactions - but doctors would never allow it.

Important to remember uncertainty tolerance is also a factor of privilege, easier for those less close to the edge, or who have not endured a lifetime of disaster.

ps. “Not all doctors” = immediate block. Spare me.

How is this acceptable? And before anyone says it’s “free”, we directly fund this entire system with our taxes. We pay to be mistreated and medically neglected by people with no accountability.

💯 How is this acceptable - especially for a system we fund with our taxes!

I’ll never understand why there isn’t better oversight and a way to get help, when you’re being seriously harmed by people in positions of power like this. They can literally get away with murder, or at least destroying people’s lives - they’re above the law.

So true. And SO exhausting. We’ve been in so many situations where we had to placate fragile doctors egos (even when they’re wrong or out of line) just to avoid getting denied care. The power imbalance in health care is real, and it’s enraging.

My optometrist is still rocking an N95 in 2026. Every year. He cares & it shows. I actually look forward to my annual eye exams because I am safe & the ventilation is good too. Plus, fun new glasses 🤓

If you read one thing today, heck this week, make it this. It’s long, so make some tea and get comfy. But EVERYONE should read this article by @naomiaklein.bsky.social + @astra.bsky.social.
