When we Christians interpret the Bible with an unforgiving literalism towards our fellow citizens, yet interpret it with graciousness towards our preferred politicians, that's when we can be certain we are just using it to leverage our own power and privilege rather than to actually love others.

When we try to implement Christianity through worldly means such as money and power we have abandoned the true power of Christ and are doomed to fail and end up corrupting the church in the process. Additionally, destroying our own souls by becoming the persecutors.

The compromise is realizing that in trying to prevent "evil" through the state we are often perpetrating even greater evil. (I.e persecution)

Lesser "evils" being allowed such as divorce can prevent greater evils such as murder. (Actual argument by Williams in 1640s!)

I dont think we should try to meld them.

Roger William's "bloody tenent of persecution" makes strong religious arguments that the church and state should remain wholly separated.

The state worries about protecting body and goods, the "church" worries about the soul.

Maybe the apostles insulating themselves from financial decisions in the early church was far wiser than we realize. (Why deacons were created, to handle the unimportant matters like money)

Been leaning this way myself.

Once an earthly institution forms, it inevitably becomes corrupted by concerns of this earth like budget and reputation.

Slowly but surely even the well meaning will start saying "that's the financially smart decision".

Throw power into the mix, it happens fast.

Halfway convinced myself that the corporate to political pipeline of leadership was a lot of the problem before this manifesto.

This is convincing me further.

We need new ways for political leaders to be developed outside of the corporate mindset.

Wait, Trump is going to read a passage about humility and turning away from wickedness?

The irony is too much.

A formula in an excel sheet is a better solution than this. (And that is not a good solution)

Using an LLM for a calculation is like trying to turn a Phillips head screw with a bladed screw driver.

It might work sometimes, but will more likely make it worse.

this reminds me, i don't think SCOTUS should be allowed to choose their own clerks. standardize the hiring schedule, put the applications in a pool, blind reads (perhaps by a panel of former clerks) and random assignments.

Its very similar to conspiracy thinking. It makes us feel safer because it gives a target for our rage/fear.

If I can blame a person, group, thing, etc. It is/was possible to prevent it.

To admit that nobody can be blamed is to acknowledge that bad things happen and cannot always be prevented.

I can fight their views without hating them. I can seek to create the world they are afraid of, and then help them overcome that fear if they are able.

But, I cannot allow myself to hate, lest I become that which I fight.

The sad thing is like any feud both sides have "valid" cause to believe the other side hates them.

But until we recognize our own hate and disavow it, we cannot find peace.

This is not the same as disarming ourselves or giving up though. Unfortunately many think it is.

This isnt the only place we see this issue either.

The amount of hate and vitriol many on the left have for Trump voters echoes the hate and vitriol of what became MAGA had toward "the left."

I understand why they hate MAGA!

But dont become a leftwing version of them! Please.

Why must my fellow Christians be so wedded to using a term when it causes such harm?

Just use a different word!

Hypocritical is right there, and arguably a better choice as it is more direct.

Interesting application, and no I dont mind.

That argument is also based on a faulty view of how language evolves. It tries to smuggle in the concept of "neutrality" under a scientific term. And then say "that's just how it is"

The evolution of languages is wholly dependent on the culture and biases of that culture.

I reject the premise.

3. What are the implications of replacing our fellowship with other people (even over the internet) with a fellowship with a man made computer "intelligence"

4. Who is morally and legally responsible when the "AI" gives bad or immoral advice.

Etc.

A few questions.

1. Is trying to create something in the likeness of mankind's mind an attempt to be like God or is it just excercising dominion over the earth?

2. How does the doctrine that humanity is created in God's image play into this?

Reading this post made me ask myself whether current AI is actually a form of a graven images.

If we are using them to replace God, obviously idolatry.

But where does this fall when replacing people, or how?

What are the theological implications of creating a computer in the likeness of man?

Tech billionaires want Christians to believe in AI For Peter Thiel and JD Vance allies, the tech right is framing AI as a moral—even divine—mission.

Silicon Valley’s elites are preaching a new gospel: AI isn’t just good business—it’s the Lord’s work. Read this to see what's going on.

Easy scapegoat. "That's what the computer says."

As if the computer is always right.

Shift blame to the tool, not the person who decided that the tool is the source of truth. Also remove the "weak" human employee with empathy from the decision pipeline.

It almost reads as adding a fourth member to the trinity or a third part to Christ's nature of wholly God, wholly man.

Very muddled, and unnecessary.

Why do we need to view it that way vs what we have currently?

4 days ago 2 0 0 0

Agreed.

Also we need to start working to change how people view taxes.

Taxes are currently viewed by Americans as money the government takes from me.

Change this to a services I pay for mentality like most view SS.

Healthcare could be a great place to start.

If the profit margins are that small, business has no incentive to open stores in low income communities. As these communities need food, it makes sense to have city run stores who can operate on a break even basis.

I agree there is a problem with the question.

Whether I view someone as very religious does not correlate with whether I view them as good.

Trump is not religious. Many in his administration are. They are all immoral.

I can believe someone is very religious, but also very, very wrong

IMO, this poll doesnt tell us people's view of Trump.

I dont think Trump is religious at all.
I do think members of his administration are very religious.

And they are both ungodly and immoral!

Religiousity in itself is amoral, and frequently immoral.
