I just found a long-forgotten piece of writing that I ended with:

And gods, I hope that’s true. I really do.

Comic page 1: a humanoid robot enters a dark mobile home, carrying a small container with it. Kitsche memorabilia is everywhere.

Comic page 2: the robot muses to itself on the nature of humanity’s admirable qualities while looking through photo frames on a shelf.

Comic page 3: the robot enters another area of the mobile home and encounters a smaller robot with cartoonish, angel-like features. It has a screen on its face projecting an elderly grandmothers appearance. It mistakes the first robot for its grandson.

Comic page 4: the tall, humanoid robot approaches the smaller Angel bot and dumps out the contents of the container it was holding. The Angel bot scans its contents, and learns it is ‘grandsons’ cremated remains. His grandmothers own personality and visage are what was programmed in to the Angel bot. The humanoid robot, having completed its mission, exits. In the background, the Angel bot powers down one final time.

Is a robot allowed to handle the dead? Does it even matter if there aren’t any humans left?
