The way Snarks are used in HL1 vs the friendly Antlions in HL2 is a good way to see how Valve's design philosophy changed. The former having no tutorial and existing mainly for expanding Xen's ecosystem and trolling, whilst the latter are tiresomely tutorialised and then dropped after a chapter.

How is perf affected? Is each overlay a separate edict?

That's the thing. It's an out-of-character drop in quality for Peter Moffatt, too. He did State of Decay and The Five Doctors. That'd be like if David Maloney farted out Underworld. And in the next season we get The Two Doctors which looks great and has wonderful performances. It's such an anomaly.

Trying to unravel why the show fell apart in the mid-80s is kinda like trying to pinpoint what made the Beatles break up to me. The answer is "everyone" to different degrees whether they were being deliberate (Saward, Grade) or just making misguided choices in the moment (JNT, Colin).

It's like absolutely everyone on both sides of the camera (except maybe Azmael's actor? I remember he did alright relatively) had the biggest off day in their careers. Much like with Timelash everything goes wrong in every department (again except one guest role, this time the Borad).

Got an itch for some Doom, and decided to revisit No Rest for The Living after many years. It's good, but unremarkable to me. With so many custom campaigns made over the decades its hard for any of the official expansions to feel unique. Anyone in the last 15 years could make something like this.

Thanks for this. Masterplan has some incredible production design and Camfield's direction really makes some rooms look huge (I wonder how much space the Dalek conference hall actually took up?). Nice to see how the lobby was laid out, I could never quite grasp the geography in DOA.

Example of using info_overlays for blending terrain and brushwork in Hammer. Left images are without overlays, showing sharp edges of displacements, right images are with the same overlay texture using to blend the edges.

Using decals/overlays for blending between displacement terrain and brushwork is really great. I suggest every mapper to try it, and to learn various info_overlay tricks in Hammer - dragging corners, setting U/V tiling manually, using render order, and scaling.
