Sending virtual hugs to everyone who’s like me. Not fully mothered yet still putting one foot in front of the other to break these intergenerational chains. We’re still here and we’re strong. ❤️

As a mom, I’ve done everything I can to be the mom my kids needed. The mom I would’ve needed. But there’s a part of me that always remains hollow. The wound that never healed.

She passed away in 2018, and while I’ve felt sad about her loss, grieving has been weird. I understood she was suffering here, and had been for years before she passed. The tears never came.

Mother’s Day brings complicated emotions. On the one hand, I know my mother loved me. But on the other, her mental illness prevented her from ever being what I needed.

And to the guy who was like “not in my backyard” as he grumbled on by - LISTEN to those of us with lived experience. YES absolutely IN MY BACK YARD because everyone deserves housing, healthcare, food, safety, etc etc etc. We can do better, if & when we choose to.

Spent the weekend at @latimesfob with my kids & my kids’ book #YIMBY. Had a lovely weekend, although I’m still sad that there were a few naysayers who felt the need to speak up when they saw my kids’ book is about ending homelessness.

Me and my friend Trish waiting for the cliff divers. There are two spots to stand - this one is where the divers splashed us, lol.

There are 2 Southpark references. Somewhere in the ceiling above where you get your food, there’s a Kenny tribute (we didn’t see it). This is a giant Cartman with sample burritos.

Casa Bonita looks just like it does on Southpark. It’s pink, has a massive fountain in front, and it’s located in a strip mall. (My friend told me she used to go there on field trips as a kid.)

This is a view of the pool where the cliff divers jump. They have shows every 20 minutes or so, and there are two divers who jump into the water over and over, and then climb up the sides of the cave and jump in again. It was awesome to learn that it happens in real life just like in the Southpark episode.

This story is close to my heart, because my older brother Kevin was diagnosed with DM1 when he was about to age out of foster care. The care he needed didn’t exist back then, and it limited his life opportunities & eventually cut his life short.

Olivia’s journey is more hopeful.

He’s really nice. I met him at a science teacher’s conference back when I used to teach high school. He was wearing his adorable bow tie. 😁
