Hi BlueSky! I’m Rodrigo, a Chilean marine biologist doing my PhD in the UK with @pippajmoore.bsky.social @iapetusdtp.bsky.social @newcastleuni.bsky.social and @naturalengland.bsky.social. My research explores novel urchin barrens in the UK kelp forests — why they happen and how resilient they are 🌿🧪

The decomposition dynamics of 3 important #kelp species in the Northeast Atlantic with focus on the loss of dissolved carbon. We found that DOC is released in large amounts initially, providing valuable data around the complex processes involved in #carbon cycling of kelps.

Keir Starmer told to use Brexit freedoms to shut down 'destructive' fishing Prime Minister is being urged to make good on his pre-election promise for a total ban on bottom trawling in the UK's marine protected areas.

🚨 Scientists are calling out UK govt for failing to protect our seas from bottom trawling! 20 top marine scientists are demanding a ban in protected areas. Ocean havens MUST be more that just lines on a map. 🌊

I just checked the 100 most recent job ads on various marine biology Facebook groups and jobs boards.

2 involve SCUBA diving.

The overwhelming majority of marine biology jobs do not involve SCUBA diving at all.

Which means you can follow your dreams even if you medically can't SCUBA dive!
