Return to Oz sticker sheet
Returned to the Castro to see a 40th anniversary screening of Return to Oz with Walter Murch in person. A wonderful night presented by Movies for Maniacs.
Visited The Trees of Mystery on the Oregon Coast. Way above expectations-a stunning skylift, a walking trail up and in the trees, and the vintage Paul Bunyon Tall Tale Trail.
There is more to it than the fairy tale trail that one travels through first but that section is tops.
Finally made it to The Enchanted Forest in Salem, Oregon. Pretty amazing!
Am I too old to become a RPG person? Either way, this thing looks epic as an object and I look forward to its physical manifestation.
Been sorting through lots of old papers and ephemera and was surprised by these ticket books.
Shapeshifters is a homespun microcinema, event space, brewery, and all around good vibe hub in Oakland. Like most independently run places, they are experiencing tough times and could use some help. Please chip in if you can.
Take a gander at the calendar and go to a show
Sadly this seems to have been sold. I walked by it for weeks on my way to work. Thought about purchasing but the joy it brought me each morning was way more priceless.
My spouse and I started Lamfanti Presents quite casually in 2017, creating oddball programs scraped from our weird brains/lives. Often presenting archival and/or experimental film in new contexts for audiences who might be hesitant about such things. Our site has a listing of past shows.
Its been nearly 2 years since Lamfanti Presents presented--that changes May 24. Join us at Shapeshifters in Oakland for a program centered around Tomonari Nishikawa's 16mm gem AMUSEMENT RIDE. Also Brakhage! Dark rides! A ponderous introduction on the intersection of the avant-garde film & rides!
Thanks, Dan! It is great to have had a little bit of The Tomorrow Society back for a few weeks.
Were you ever Johnny Guitar? Jose Mandolin?
Ready to be spooked.
Piqued by two very different time travel movies that opened this week. Both are fun variations on how our past & future get filtered through technology and human relationships. Also NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE and GOOD LUCK HAVE FUN DON'T DIE have long tripartite titles and made me laugh.
Trust Guy! This is an amazing experience.
MOTHER EARTH UNITES US IN HEART AND MIND, AND THE LOVE WE GIVE MAKES US HUMANKIND, THROUGH OUR VAST WONDROUS LAND, WHEN WE STAND HAND IN HAND, IT’S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL.
Two films from the teens that were named to the National Film Registry today are streaming on the NFPF site--a Japanese American production from 1914 and a student film from 1916. Both are unique examples of independent filmmaking in early cinema.

Sharing a Puck article on this topic, seems like Sony doesn't get much say in future release strategies:

Inquiring minds want to know!
I’ll be seeing one of them tomorrow.
She was nominated for the wrong performance this year. Hopefully these “Skandie” nominators saw the new Predator.

Wild stuff happening in the Frisco Bay.
It was great meeting you at that event! Thanks for playing audio from my other favorite ride as we waited for festivities to start. It really made my day more special.

Two fun 16mm films made by amateur filmmaker Herbert Sturdy (who worked as an attorney for Walt Disney) are now streaming on the @filmpreservation.bsky.social site. For fans of midcentury West Coast goodness, complete with handmade titles and graphics.
