Sat in the waiting room for a meeting for 30 minutes, sent an email inquiring why I was still in the waiting room, and then was told that the meeting is actually on Monday........5 days from now.
Is anyone's head screwed on correctly these days?
Alberta has refused to exempt Indigenous people from the $100 fee for COVID vaccines.
And though health advocates contend that amounts to a treaty violation, the federal government won't step in.

Two white nationalists I exposed in a recent article showed up to try to intimidate me in person last night.
This is a press freedom issue.
Here’s what happened:

Carvin said that while the government may need to rebuild ties with India to diversify trade, “stabilization does not mean ignoring reality.”
“I know that we need to re-engage India, but if we lose the lessons of the past five years, then we’re doomed to repeat them,” she added.
“India has been involved in what we call ‘foreign interference’ in Canada since the 1980s, and I find the idea highly dubious that they have suddenly stopped because of a few high-level meetings between officials,” Carvin told PressProgress.
“Trade is constantly being prioritized over our fundamental freedoms and our right to life and safety and security,” Prabjot Singh, legal counsel for Sikh Federation Canada, said, adding that over the past four decades, successive Canadian governments have repeatedly made the same “mistake.”

the world keeps spinning.
it was a wholesome moment and nice reminder. I only took seven months of maternity leave because I love my job but also because I was scared to take longer and have my work (and me LOL) collect dust in the background
I had an interview with a source who is super smart and cool & my 10 month old decided at the exact moment we started speaking that it was a good time to scream at the top of her lungs and start laughing
but the source was SO nice & started asking about my daughter and said she loves a working mom
No wonder he ran from reporters.
Today, BC's opposition supported the introduction of a bill to abolish the province's human rights tribunal and repeal its human rights code.
It didn't even pass first reading, but here's some important background on the guy for whom BC's right is now going to bat:

It's just a slap in the face to the people who are telling their stories despite very real threats to their lives for doing so, and to the reporters who are also putting themselves at risk to tell these stories that our government is just like, "well, nothing to see here."
I also find it fascinating that no matter how many times reporters within the community themselves sound the alarm because they have their ear to the streets, people don't take it seriously until some big-name white reporter is like "this is a problem." Like, go figure.
How many times do Sikh Canadians, many of whom I've spoken to for stories in the past, have to share their real-life fears, their threats to themselves and their families, their experience of online harassment or targeting, before it's taken seriously/
I'm working on a story related to Carney's trip to India/government officials recent claim that "India is no longer linked to violent crimes," and one thing that really frustrates me is the repeated erasure of Sikh Canadians lived experiences.
My latest for PressProgress. Grocery prices have gone up this past year, and some Canadians are having to make some tough choices.
