This is gallows humour, btw. In reality, I am kind of fucked up over this. I don't know the family, but I'm sick for them.

Perhaps, if there was a history of abuse they were aware of, but otherwise, I don't see it as inappropriate. I feel awful for the parents and everyone involved. This was meant to be an experience they'd share and make wonderful memories. Now they have these traumatic ones instead.

A tent outside Seattle Central college spray painted onto the tent are the messages "This is student housing' and 'I am a student.' The day is gray and wet. It's not raining currently, but it rained today.
Such a powerful visual. I applaud this student's use of optics. This is wrong. The world doesn't have to be like this.

After decades of serving as a reliable, authoritative public repository of basic information about countries, their economies, and their people, The World Factbook disappeared from the internet on February 4 with no advance notice. https://cnn.it/4kqanLy

@SenateDems It has to stop. Any measure that does not address this kind of behavior is empty. They have to stop terrorizing communities.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."
Today has been a lot of stories about horrible, disgusting, inhuman, piece of shit, ice agents, abusing and terrorizing children. Also adults but at least three stories about them abusing children. How are we going to stop this?
ABOLISH ICE. NOW
I'm about to finish my ninth!
we don't have very much but we can strip anybody who works for ICE of any social niceties whatsoever. you find out somebody is with them? they don't get to be ANYTHING to you anymore. and tell them WHY. it SUCKS to be ostracized and stigmatized. please use it on somebody who's earned it for once
The local police should intervene. What ICE is doing is unlawful.

I'm working on a project at the moment where I need to speak to people who have been affected by celebrity romance fraud - either as the victim who sent money or the friends/family of someone who did

One of the most lopsided results you'll ever see in a poll, from our weekend Washington Post poll www.washingtonpost.com/politics/int...
“What do we call it when a stronger person decides to rob a weaker person because he can? It is just gangsterism. We are the most dangerous gangsters in the world today. Not in the sense of being charming rogues or alluring antiheroes. We are the bad guys.”
here's the thing: you are not reaching any real voters by posting on twitter at this point
none of them are on the platform, and if they are, they're sure not voting for you
twitter posting is exclusively for the audience of reporters who live over there, and you can reach them elsewhere
I will say that ableism is directly addressed quite well, it's just this little byproduct that remains. Hard to avoid.
What readers are saying about the series... 'FUNNY, WEIRD, SNARKY' 'A FANTASTICALLY FUN SPACE ADVENTURE!' DEEPLY HEARTFELT STORY 'PRATCHETT AND ADAMS FANS, TAKE NOTE' 'IF BECKY CHAMBERS WROTE A, STORY ARC FOR STAR TREK BUT THE DOCTOR WANDERED IN AND BROUGHT THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE' 'QUEER SPACE ROMP'
It's a natural progression, as this is generally the very next thing we default to, but I do hate that we do so. And while I totally relate with Lem's having felt unmoored before having found a calling onboard the teapot, I'm afraid that's my internalized ableism it's speaking to.
I adore Starship Teapot by Si Clarke. It's so lovely and inclusive. The only thing that doesn't quite sit right with me is that as a side effect of the name/pronoun convention (which I really dig otherwise) sentient beings tend to introduce themselves using their job titles.
