Terminal Lance #167 “Bootcamp: Disease” - Terminal Lance I don't remember a lot about bootcamp, but I remember one thing very vividly: I was always fucking sick. Most recruits were, in fact I believe there were moments during "2nd phase" when the infection ...

I'm reminded of this Terminal Lance strip: terminallance.com/2011/12/09/t...

The hardcover of my edited collection, Pre-Conquest History and its Medieval Reception, is 60% off on the @boydellandbrewer.bsky.social website. So, if you wanted to read some fascinating studies of how the early English past was reinvented in a Norman world...

Whelp, took down the wi-fi network at work attempting to reconfigure the modem now that we have an FTTP connection. No idea how that happened, I didn't touch or do anything with anything that would have affected the wi-fi network.

I'm going to blame the Barracuda, which always seems to be problem.

Sometimes you're subscribed to a YouTube channel that is, say, laser focused on old computers.

Sometimes you're subscribed to a channel that has a healthy balance of Australian politics, Pokemon and the development of Christisn theology.

Such is the duality of man.

Petition: Raise Bereavement Support Payment and extend beyond 18 months Reform Bereavement Support Payment so families with and without dependent children receive help beyond 18 months, with annual uprating to reflect cost of living.

We are a very small minority in terms of government funding, which makes the slashing of provision even more gutting. A drop in the overall budget could be life saving to families in more perilous financial conditions than me!

Bereavement support “shockingly inadequate”: WAY member’s plea to Chancellor Reeves WAY member Caroline’s household income dropped by 75% overnight when her husband died of cancer last year, leaving her to raise two teenage children on her own.

www.widowedandyoung.org.uk/news/bereave... A lot of people assume that I am still in receipt of state benefits following Kieran's death, but in fact nowadays widowed parents receive financial support for only 18 months. This has huge financial implications! Kieran earned 60% of our household income.

"Gesta Francorum Ierusalem expugnantium: The deeds of the Franks who conquered Jerusalem"

Edited and translated by Susan B. Edgington and Thomas W. Smith

without any help from the English men-at-arms, probably deserves to be explored in greater detail. Those details might be more important to understanding the battle than any potential change in the battlefield.

It must be said that other accounts don't hint at a prior dismounted French attack, but I do find it interesting that the Gesta has some support for the clearer narrative of Monstrelet, etc.

I think that initial advance, plus Waurin and le Févre' contention that the archers demolished the vanguard

3) The Gesta, similarly, does not explicitly mention a dismounted advance prior to the mounted attack, but does say, after the repulse of the mounted men, that "the French nobility, who had previously advanced with all of their front, so that they had nearly come into contact with us" attacked.

2) The Monk of St-Denis does not explicitly say that the dismounted men-at-arms made an attack prior to the mounted attack, but does say that the English archers "had already engaged in combat" prior to the charge.

You wouldn't if you haven't read the sources, because I haven't come across any secondary source that mentions it.

1) Monstrelet, Waurin and le Févre say the dismounted men-at-arms "advanced a little against them, but then made a little retreat" before detailing the mounted charge.
