That's enough to fool Brock and Pikachu, but Misty sees right through the deception, and reaches close to 'Ashley' and says she'll be sticking very, very close.

Misty and Ashley walk through Celadon City, and Misty comments critiques her usual male companions, stating how happy she is to be with her, but also subtly threatening that if Ash is caught, his Pokemon journey might end in jail. So, in a bid to humiliate him, we get a montage sequence of Misty taking Ash around - shopping and wearing new clothes, makeup, getting food, taking photos... notably, Ash gets more comfortable as the day goes on, which leads to Ash thinking better of Misty and girls in general, and Misty conflicted that she actually enjoyed herself.
