"Born into democracy" is luck, point taken there. "Where voters are informed and make good choices" is not and I think treating it like luck instead of the result of conscious action risks taking it for granted. There's probably room for everyone to have a slice of the correctness pie on this one :)

What ruining? It being dumb luck sounds like way more of a downer than the people having made a good choice.

Brennan Lee Mulligan plays D&D with a REAL GOBLIN? | Ep 29 | Right Now Podcast

On the list of unlikely overlapping fandoms, my favorite dungeon master and the metal band fronted by a goblin... actually shouldn't have been surprising at all, once I say it out loud like that...

Tornado victims blocked from federal recovery aid after Trump denied request The Trump administration denied Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ request for assistance following an outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes that left more than 40 people dead in several states.

Our federal government now operates like a shady insurance company. I wonder if Arkansas feels like they've been made great again yet.

How small is the SMALLEST SCULPTURE in the world? 🀯 YouTube video by Max Klymenko

Microsculptures! Wild! Imagine being the best in the world at something not only because you're mind-blowingly good at it, but because almost nobody else would have even thought to attempt it.

Ok, so I'm not attributing to malice what can be attributed to incompetence here, but I'm trying to imagine the conversation:

"What symbol should we use on this government ID?"
"How about a yellow star?"
"I see absolutely no issue with that. Stars are pretty, everyone likes stars"

Big "what if I ran away and joined the circus and by circus I mean a power metal band that writes songs about dragons" mood today.

Releasing a statement claiming thousands of scientists agree with a position only to have to publicly retract it because they don't is as good as having done a poll before making claims? In terms of optics alone that seems so much worse. If he's just making shit up great, if not this seems reckless.

Ok but what if it didn't? That would be disheartening, but still true. I hope the majority would come out in support of the letter, but if they weren't asked then implying that it reflects the majority view of the group is dishonest when the presidents don't actually know that it does. That matters.

Start by advocating for ranked choice or any kind of more intelligent voting system than the one we have now. Starting at the local level, and building from there. I'm afraid it's already too late, but it's the only way for third parties to ever become viable.

In Atlanta and oh man I had forgotten what an absolute lock the south has on comfort food for me. Biscuit + fried green tomato sandwich, waffle with peach cobbler on top, and grits that are probably 40% butter. No shame in admitting it, I cried y'all. Shout out to Atlanta Breakfast Club.

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

Here's a hopeful song. At this point, if today is the nadir of our misery I'll count it as a big, big win.

Not that I wouldn't put it past him to say, but the second half of that quote doesn't appear in the article. If you meant it as snark it's not clear, because it's not like it's completely implausible for him or anything.

Is he just a private citizen though? I am unclear on whether the president can simply decree something like DOGE into existence, but if he can then Musk is acting in an official capacity, which seems to me even worse.

Do you have any recommendations on ways to both compress and do incremental backups? I have over a TB in there.

So you're saying I should be able to just do `rsync -a /mnt/g /mnt/usbdrive`? I either tried that ages ago and it consistently failed mid-operation, or I have been way overcomplicating this. A quick test with a small directory worked, so here's hoping.
