Great ep! I agree with the ending recasting Carrie as a monster over a sympathetic figure feels unnecessary. And Jon Travolta’s character is unthreatening with that puffy vest. What are you gonna do? Write a threatening but well formatted letter with CSS??

and as for the "Rowan, why are you starting this project on satire movies with CARRIE, a horror movie?", well, that's a question we get into on the show and I think will be VERY clear when we hit HEATHERS

As for next week specifically -- when recording we were considering doing Sixteen Candles, but have since decided that The Breakfast Club is a better fit. It's Rowan's first time!

For the latter, we'll be hitting on Heathers, Clueless, Mean Girls, Easy A, Bottoms, and several others! We've also got @christyadmiraal.bsky.social as a co-host for these and maybe more, who can say for sure, certainly not us or her

Throughout this year, we'll be alternating months between doing more science fiction films and The Teen Girl High School Social Satire Canon. with the former, we'll be doing Charlie Kaufman films next month, including Eternal Sunshine, Synecdoche NY, and probably Being John Malkovich

TOTAL MASSACRE

Southland Tales is one of the most interesting terrible movies ever made. I love it, but I can't really recommend it to anyone. The cast is insane, the writing is insane, and it required supplemental comics to understand the film. It is a laundry lists of what not to do for cinema and it rules.

And finally: should you watch the Cannes cut?

Answer: the Cannes cut doesn't improve upon the film. Only watch it if you feel like watching Southland Tales a second time.
