The entire country should be permitted to sue him, and him specifically, for all of this.

We wouldn't actually get any of the money he's stolen back because I'm sure he's quite good at hiding it, but just to have it on paper that he's a thief would be nice.

Don't talk much about being Catholic because frankly I don't walk the walk enough to earn it, but ooooh boy am I enjoying Pope Leo XIV.

I refuse to believe any team is better at executing fake rallies than the Cubs. Flat out refuse.

According to MacroTrends, Disney's annual gross profit in 2025 was up 9.17% over 2024, which was up 9.99% over 2023, which was up 4.86% over 2022.

No amount is ever enough for the pigs running these companies.

In retrospect, I should've picked UConn to be the runner up. It would've fit better in my "everything always sucks" bracket than Duke. And it would've done even better, obviously.

By the way, I picked Michigan to win in my bracket knowing this was coming.

I don't gamble on sports because I'm too broke and because I'm smart enough to know that I'm too stupid to be good at it. But this is one of those things I knew ahead of time and wish I had gambled on.

There are a ton of reasons I've lost the belief in karma, and one of the less important ones is that the B1G - and Michigan in particular - are just apparently great at every sport now. No entity has done more damage to college sports and yet they get to win at them all.

I can't decide whether you're fortunate or unfortunate to know so few successful millennials, which I say because I know a bunch of them without being one. I did barely manage to buy a house (and be unable to afford to fix much of anything wrong with it) without parental help.

By the time any millennial makes it into a position of power, the country will be too screwed to do anything about it. And the millennials in question will probably be too old because I'm guessing Gen X will jump in there and start wrecking stuff too.

I think Ebersol had a point. In occasional watches of classic CFB games, the lack of score bug is extremely noticeable in a good way.

I barely follow Ball State basketball but I'm irrationally happy they beat the crap out of Northern Illinois today in the teams' last conference game. Have fun in the Horizon League, you dirty backstabbers.

(That's tongue in cheek. Kinda.)

The worst thing that happened to this sport was three straight teams winning it all with crappy schedules, because now large segments of people think there was causation. As if IU wouldn't have won it all if they'd beaten Virginia instead of Old Dominion.

The ex South Korean president was tried and found guilty of leading an insurrection.

Hmm.

The worst thing that happened to this sport was 3 straight Big Ten schools winning titles while playing hilariously easy (comparative to title contenders) schedules. Now everyone thinks the way to the top is cupcake city.

College football fans have been totally red-pilled. How is it that fans of teams want to be bored out of their minds every September watching crap football in service of maybe, possibly, making the playoff?

2 months ago 0 0 1 0

Everyone in the B1G wants to go past 16 teams so they can get FOX playoff games. That's the only reason. The conference is effectively owned by FOX now.

If FOX wanted to get playoff games, they had the chance with the post-2025 field. They didn't present a good offer, so ESPN paid for it.

This seems to be common among those who plan to destroy publications. Because the point isn't the money - it's the power they have to control employees' lives.

Look at the bright side (I guess), Post folks- at least the guy who decided to gut your publication didn't stick around to preside over the zombie that remained?

I'm in a very dark place these days - depressed, angry and fed up with the state of my life and the world - and it seems pretty clear I'm not alone.

The fact that it's clear I'm not alone is, in its way, a bit helpful.

Spotlighting The World Factbook as We Bid a Fond Farewell Somewhat devastating news today from the CIA: One of CIA’s oldest and most recognizable intelligence publications, The World Factbook, has sunset. There's not even a hint as to why they …

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

“If you’re 6-3 in the Big Ten, I would argue that’s a great record, and if you stumbled in a nonconference game, I don’t know why that disqualifies you,” Petitti said at last year’s Big Ten media days. “8-4 as a winning percentage, if you project that winning percentage in every other sport, I’m pretty sure you make the postseason.”

Very cool, sir -- whatever you do, don’t look up a random Big Ten schedule and ask who the best wins would be if that program lost to the top three or four teams it faced. It somehow got worse from there. Petitti tried to sell off 10% of the league’s media rights to private equity, an idea so bad he made the Trojans and Wolverines look like heroes for throwing themselves in front of it. A Michigan congresswoman wrote to Petitti opposing the deal and then a month later a Washington congressman called Petitti a jackass and accused him of trying to buy votes for the SCORE Act. While I abhor blind fetishization of bipartisanship it should be noted that the two legislators are on opposite sides of the aisle, a disdain of Petitti’s machinations bringing them together.

There are many issues with college football but it's become apparent that the biggest threat to what we love about it is Tony Petitti.

How the Big Ten commissioner has become the sport's top villain:
