Like if you're going to give me an interracial relationship, give me a Black and Latino or Asian or Middle Eastern or Indigenous couple. That would be so interesting seeing how the various cultural dynamics show up in their relationships.

Seriously truly champion diverse stories without whiteness

Unfortunately and that show only worked because it was a small Canadian company that created it. Hollywood didn't want it initially. And I did read and enjoy "Charmed Offensive" (written by a white author), but again it's a relationship between a POC character and a white love interest.

I will forever hype up Julian Winters, Terry Benton-Walker, R. Eric Thomas, Kosoko Jackson, Ryan Douglass, and George M. Johnson for creating Black gay stories in a variety of genres. I would love for any of their works to be adapted, but we have to show companies that we want them. 5/

Made by Black creators. I want to hype those up. If companies don't see the market for something, it won't be created. This is how we've gotten so many reality shows and caricatures of Black queer experience. We have to show we want Black gay romances, fantasies, etc. in order to get them 4/

I want more Black queer representation. Hell I love reading Black queer books and watching movies. I also don't want trauma in my romances. I can do without Black gay leads ending up with white men. I do not want a "Heated Rivalry but Black". I want authentic and loving Black stories 3/

It's not an HBO show. HBO did not put any money into its production. The popularity it's received started with fans of the book first released in 2019 and the anticipation caused by the trailer. It's a show with two unknowns leading it. It was produced in Canada so not even a U.S. show. 2/

Lots of discourse about Black gay representation in media vs the popularity of Heated Rivalry. I am a fan of Heated Rivalry! I love the show and know it was made by a small Canadian streaming site with a shoestring budget and only got HBO Distribution for the U.S. a week before its premiere. 1/

This is on my list.

My fave character on the show being revealed to be autistic adds a different layer of intrigued. I'm found myself enamored by the nuances within Hudson's portrayal of Shane. This revelation provides more clarity. I can't wait to read these books. #HeatedRivalry
