Sponsorship

Pitest is looking for additional corporate sponsors.

If you work for one of the thousands of organisations that contribute to the millions of downloads it receives each year, why not make the case for giving something back?

GB News headline: GP who asked Muslim woman to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her' is struck off.

Was this GP struck off just because he asked a Muslim woman to remove her veil?

How likely does that sound? 🤷‍♀️

Did he actually ask her to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her?'

Let's take a look at what really happened based on the tribunal reports...

Having not used Word for years I expected to hate returning to it, and I was absolutely right. Unfortunately it's the only way to interact with the publishing industry.

I do have some hand rolled markdown <--> docx code, but it would need a lot of work before it could fully handle change history.

Now I'm discovering that MS Word is in some way non deterministic. Opened my edit this morning and it was full of erroneous format changes.

Went back through my backup versions trying to find the point where the file had been corrupted only to find that re-opening the current version fixed it.

Winners and judges out of pocket as £20,000 writing awards appear to have closed The Plaza Prizes offered 10 awards in 2025 but some judges say they were not paid, while a number of winners hit back over AI accusations

The particularly galling bit of this is the attempt by the organiser to avoid paying the winners with claims of AI use (including for a poem already published in 2018).

It's like a study that looks at how much more the labour would cost if you built your house out of gold bricks without ever mentioning the material costs.

Reading a paper that compares LLM based mutation tools to rules based tools like pitest.

It discusses mutant generation time, but for some reason ignores analysis time completely.

This gives a *wildly* misleading picture that masks how hugely more efficient existing rules based tools are.

Mutation testing doesn't compete with TDD. It can be used to complement TDD, or it can be used without it. All mutation testing does is provide feedback on the code and tests. It doesn't care how it was written.

postmarketOS // real Linux distribution for phones Aiming for a 10 year life-cycle for smartphones

I've just discovered postmarketos.org and it looks to be insanely useful - alpine linux for old phones.

Now an old Moto G5 Plus that would otherwise be junk running as a low wattage docker server.
