The Washington Post Editorial Board was fine with Republicans gerrymandering in Texas.

But when Democrats responded in Virginia, it’s a “power grab” that “plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss.”

@awalrusdarkly.bsky.social is such a joyous writer because he cares so damn much about understanding why stories affect us, how vulnerable it is to surrender to their impact, and how doing so can help us be better people. Seriously, give this a read.

This is one of the best pieces of pop culture writing I've read in the past couple of years. These excerpts are great but you need to read how the build to that last one. Goddamn. Thank you @awalrusdarkly.bsky.social and @popheist.com

I love how there’s such a hardcore contingent of us in ATX who stump for this film. The Fantastic Fest effect in action 🤘

‘Obsession’ Filmmaker Curry Barker to Direct ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Reimagining at A24 (EXCLUSIVE) Horror phenom Curry Barker will direct A24's reboot of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

This is crazy crazy crazy news. And he more than earned it with Obsession. Not just for the scares but for the tonal versatility it shares with its humor and the repulsion it has towards its leads as much as its villains. variety.com/2026/film/ne...

I thought this point Eric made about how libraries are early introductions to a social contract was really interesting, too:

The social media pivot from chronological timelines to popular-first was done at least partly to throttle real time organizing

Yes. Imagine a whole *film* for this. Think of how creative you can be with how this is shot. 😍

And with that complaint, that’s something you can tell they’re really working on! They’re fitting in all of the ASL, varying how characters sign, all within what room they have to work with. They’re working with the world of the film to make it so much more accessible.

But they’re really trying—especially with how animation allows them to pivot characters bodies to allow for what room they can. It’s such an amazing first step. It’s really nothing I’ve seen before.

My complaint is that the signing is still beholden to the original camerawork, cutting away from and misframing hands and faces—so, words, ideas, emotions—because they were still shot from a hearing perspective. Subtitles still need to be on.

I’m going to cry. This is so so so beautiful and I wish I had this as a kid with my Deaf parents when a ton of our Disney tapes didn’t even have captions yet. What a world Deaf and CODA kids get to grow up in now.

Wolfwalkers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Ted Lasso, and Velvet Underground are great starts!

But give me a version of that Stranger Things Arrow Box for Servant, and a CODA 4K that’s not MoD!

On top of reasons of role deconstruction and bodily autonomy, this is one reason why it's so important to many people in power to eradicate trans folk.

If you're secure with yourself, feeling good BEING yourself, they can't tell you you're broken and then sell you a "fix"

Federal judge unloads on ‘unserious’ RFK Jr., says anti-trans policy showed his ‘cruelty’ Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai vacated the “Kennedy Declaration,” finding it unlawfully attempted to override medical standards and restrict care for transgender youth.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.

“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

There are many reasons I believe in the separation of Church and State and "you can't disagree with the head of state, that's against theology" is probably the most prominent "absolutely not" scenario.

I'm really excited for The Mummy on Sunday. I want big swings and 2 hour plus horror films but I'm even more stoked to see Laia Costa on a big screen again. I have no idea why she wasn't a huge breakout star after VICTORIA back in 2015.
