I remember seeing that "Rosalita" on some History of Rock and Roll show and I thought "my gods, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life."

I spent my teens and 20s with the boots from Passiac and Cleveland, and they could have nuked Phoenix during the performance of "Rosalita" and it would kept on going.

When I managed a video store in the late 80s, I would tell customers who rented FACES OF DEATH 2 that it wasn't as good as FACES OF DEATH because they couldn't get the original cast.

"LOVE AND THEFT" isn't just Bob Dylan's best album of the past half-century (less damming with faint praise than you might expect), it's at least a top ten Dylan album for me, probably top five.

Also, whoever did the Lou Reed on the cover version is my new hero.

If an artist can put out a whole singles album full of bangers, that's no small feat in any era.

He'd also do as much of Jack Nicholson in A FEW GOOD MEN as he could remember.

Not only are the Old 97s still making great music -- as is Rhett Miller as a solo artist -- I think SATELLITE RIDES is their absolute peak. Easy vote for me.

‘A Place Both Wonderful and Strange’ Review: A Town Called Twin Peaks David Lynch and Mark Frost’s surreal mystery series ran for only two seasons in its initial run. But it proved a forerunner of a television revolution.

Over at the Wall Street Journal, I reviewed Scott Meslow's excellent new 'Twin Peaks' survey "A Place Both Wonderful And Strange", which narrates the show's amazing journey from midseason network replacement to canonical instance of uniquely American art. I met W. Earl Brown at a Drive-by Truckers concert in West Hollywood. It was just after Season 3 ended.

Real nice guy, said they were hoping for another season when I asked about it

That's true, it was almost instant regret: i was making fun of indie purists by the early 1990s!

As one of the people who helped to create indie cred during the 1980s, I now formally apologize for my actions.

"Among some fans, there is sometimes a naive hope that “indie artists” should be held to a different—perhaps higher—standard. Nobody minds when major label pop stars do this sort of thing. It’s expected. But bands who trade in hard-earned credibility can take a hit."
