This is why I am enamored when people decide to throw 10-30 furry excursions. The reg price is you showing up and pitching in toward the hotel or house rental. It's more about the experience of discovery and making fun together and less about a convention schedule

Totally attuned with you on staffing incentive. Volunteers are very special individuals. Hoping to operate a convention at the scale of hotel level entirely by volunteers is wishful thinking.

Most convention programming and scheduling needs TLC. Still too much holdover from 20years ago. Too little structure and people will complain they didn't get enough out of registering. Too much structure and people will complain they felt spread thin. Imagine if Dealers den was a 1day:4hour slot 💀

I don't think the ethics/impact of job replacement can/should be distilled into a simplistic 2x2. Beyond who is willing to take the "blame" there are a lot of other factors businesses need to consider. i.e., Security, privacy, wages/economics, brand quality/reputation, behavior, etc.
