Regarding the reboot, Brain thankfully had some softer moments in seasons two and three, but I wish the show had leaned harder into his spin-off characterization from the beginning.

The spin-off also gives Brain his best motivation for world domination, which is to make the world a better place, and it also played with the idea that the world might be better off with Brain in charge.
Adding to Maurice LaMarche’s comment, Brain is in top form in Pinky and The Brain (1995). He receives a lot of emotional depth, is presented as an anti-hero, and consistently displays his love for Pinky (even if he can't admit it).
“Gee Brain..”

I was more into Pinky and The Brain honestly. It has a sophisticated charm to its humor and the show still holds ip.
Orson Welles: You’re asking me, the renowned spokesperson for Paul Masson Wine to recreate my brilliant 1938 radio broadcast merely to deceive and impress the wife of this skinny reptile?
Fry: Sorry, nevermind.
Orson Welles: I’ll do it for free.
To Brain's credit, he shows his benevolent side from time to time.
The same can't be said for Daffy, lol.
The Brain from Pinky and The Brain dressed as Robin Hood.
Daffy Duck from Looney Tunes dressed as Robin Hood.
Robin Brain and Robin Hood Daffy are two sides of the same coin, as they're the last guys you'd want as the noble hero.
HOW IS BRINKY NOT CANON THEY R SOOO HEAVILY IMPLIER TO BE GAY
I love the 90s WB cartoon approach of writing material for no imaginable demographic. There's a Pinky and the Brain that's an episode-long parody of Billy Jack. Animaniacs did a simultaneous takeoff of Apocalypse Now and the suppressed Jerry Lewis Holocaust movie The Day the Clown Cried.
“In Italy under the Borgias, they had 30 years of murder, bloodshed & warfare, & they produced indigestible noodles, boring operas & the Fiat. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, 500 yrs of democracy & peace, & what did they produce? The Swiss bank account, the best cheese in the world & HEIDI!”
I just discovered this short and it’s so charming! I love the designs of the characters, the songs are bops, and I appreciate how authentic the kids act.
Kenneth is iconic!
Pinky and The Brain was one of the most rewarding shows to revisit. I love the comedy, but I was surprised by how much emotional depth it has.
Megalomaniacs Anonymous is another great episode where Brain seeks out help and it reveals the more benevolent side of his character.
I love that Pinky and the Brain takes place in whatever decade the show needs it to take place in to justify the jokes they want to make that week.
And then there's the great episode where Brain is hypnotized by Sigmund Freud, journeys into his past, and unlocks the events that drive him to rule the world. It's this series' Rosebud, and as therapist and patient work through it, it's amazing how much you feel for the despotic cartoon mouse.
My favorite: Pinky selling his soul to Satan so Brain can achieve his dream of world domination. Brain loses interest in his prize because it was handed to him & also realizes he misses Pinky and goes to Hell to save him (telling a flunky who asks if he's on the list that he's Rush Limbaugh).
Currently watching the one where they go to 1962 and Brain gets $6 million in seed money (he actually calls it that) from mafiosi to open a casino, Brain's Palace; headlines as Brainatra, despite zero talent; founds The Mouse Pack, and enjoys a brief period of stardom until he's declared "passe."
My lady @mzspress.bsky.social brought Pinky & the Brain back into my life by finding it on Tubi. Highbrow + lowbrow + musical numbers. Pinky is so wonderfully naive/innocent. Brain is Orson Welles, Frasier, and Ralph Kramden, except a mouse.

Pinky and the Brain were a couple, right?
A cross stitch of Pinky and the Brain on 16ct Aida cloth.
They're done! Work has been exhausting me lately, which is why this took so long. I still need to wash and frame it, so it can be ready for Astronomicon next month. The pattern will be available in my shops tomorrow.

Some older Pinkys! ZORT!
He was a staple in the animation industry, and he will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Barry Caldwell.
We had him on the Poitcast a few years ago to discuss his directorial work on the Animaniacs cartoon Puppet Rulers, and he was one of our best guests. He was knowledgeable, funny, and sincere.
