Sweden returns to pen and paper: why one of Europe’s most technologically advanced countries is scaling back digital education. www.balkanweb.com/en/After-exp...
Big news stories this week about Sweden & Norway moving away from screens in the classrooom.
People are realising that some technologies are just not suited for some purposes. It is hard to read deeply & concentrate on a tablet.

I really don't think the term 'playbook' belongs in public-facing #content, even if primarily aimed at digital folk.
I'd suggest 'Manual', 'Guidance', 'How-to', '[Descriptor]: a reference for [audience]', or another clear language, inclusive term.
When shared with clients, it tends to get re-named 'Our approach' or 'Strategy for xyz'.
'Playbook' in a digital context is an agency-side word for 'Go-to source reference for how we do this'.
It's very jargonistic, and is not clear language.
It's got a slight flavour of "fun tech term that feels cool to use".
The same cassowary dad sculpture as the original post but now complete with a shiny layer of varnish.
The cassowary chick on its own in the palm of my hand, about the size of or an olive.
Different angle of cassowary dad.
Cassowary dad now glazed and glamorous.
Apparently Qwant is now partnering with Ecosia to build a new European search index, but as Ecosia relies on Bing this may make it less independent again (Qwant having itself moved away from Bing to become "mostly independent").
'...Mojeek, whose search results are 100% independent of Google or Bing, and which promises not to track users or collect information on them, so everyone gets exactly the same search results (not the case with Google or Bing). The French company Qwant is similarly privacy-oriented...'
Have been revisiting this since @lapope.bsky.social shared it in her 10 Things newsletter last week. I previously tried moving to an alternative #SearchEngine, at least for non-work web use, and do like the sound of Mojeek and Qwant!

A northern flicker perched on the bow of a vessel
Never thought l'd take my best northern flicker photo ever offshore on the deck of a vessel! 🪶🌿 We've had some interesting bird visitors, mostly migrators likely enjoying a platform to rest on mid-journey. Highlights included a palm warbler, a savannah sparrow, and a ruby-crowned kinglet.
Idea: invited and or shortlisted bidders should be paid something for the proposal stage. Not a full rate, but, you know, something.
Or get some sort of complimentary thing from the organisation, free entry, points, an experience.
Just a passing thought.

So much to love about that. I'm glad that happened for you!

Saying "I don't mean to be rude" does not negate rudeness. It just draws attention to the fact you've got enough self-awareness to realise you're being rude, but not enough grace to realise you should either put it differently or not say the thing.
That said, we found it really hard to find the coal shed cottage! Tried to ask at the local pub Google maps sent us to but it was shut. Luckily the pub's neighbour knew the way.
The host'd included just the W3W words without a link to the site, assuming everyone very familiar; we just ignored it.
I stayed in a very rural part of the Peak District for a month in 2024, Wetton. The Airbnb host for the small cottage (converted coal shed in fact), who was really great, a real example of what Airbnb could and should be, said the local community use W3W all the time and find it useful.
Directory members, please remember to pay your 2026 subs! 👀 Thank you to those who have already.
Next release after this will be: 15 July. You can apply any time. I plan for the Directory to be limited to 200 professionals.

That happened to me recently too. Very annoying as I’ve boycotted Amazon since 2014.
The British Red Cross tech arch I mentioned above, who I worked with on an emergencies partnership project in Covid, specialised in mapping; he was highly critical of W3W.
