I think what it may be is that his victims were willing to step forward at this point because it's the time of most leverage against him in the court of public opinion, and the time they're most likely to have support from everyone, which they likely, sadly, wouldn't have at any other point (Cont..)

Y'know what? I thought about this a lot more, and no, this was an open secret in Sacramento, now that I've done some cursory research (which, granted, I should have done, but was out of spoons) -- people covered for him for a decade+, blaming the victims for not coming forward sooner. It stinks.

Porter, while once my rep, a move and a career ago, was ruthless in Washington, so I don't expect her to be anything less in her campaign, tbh. But, she's got skeletons in her closet of being a very aggressive person as well, allegedly verbally berating volunteers, physically attacking ppl as well..
Katie Porter's campaign came out with a 'Swalwell's actions, if true, are horrendous, and we stand with his victims, and commend them for their bravery' type message very, very, very quickly after the story dropped, and while I agree(!) the TIMING was a bit... advantageous? Maybe more... Vulturous?

Well now I had to look it up, and yeah, I think my aunt and late uncle and cousin subscribe to that theory, mostly because it removes the opposing moral authority against the current occupier of the US white house for their mental gymnastics.
