Finished the base coating for my IJA test soldier. Mostly based on @sonicsledgehammer.bsky.social recent video with changes based on paints I already had.
Webbing on helmets is also my new pet peeve. I might not do that for every helmet going forward!

The lunge mine or Shitotsubakurai was an improvised weapon consisting of a blasting charge mounted on a wooden pole. The user would sacrifice themselves charging at a tank to detonate the mine against the vehicle and explode. While considered a total failure irl, they're fun in Bolt Action!

It's hard to find time for minis between a job and a Masters degree but they're lovely and dynamic soldiers.
I think I've hit the spot for Japanese uniforms.
Both are sprayed with Uniform Grey primer from AP and base coated with Vallejo Japanese Uniform WW2.
The difference comes in wash. The left one uses Agrax Earthshade, the right uses GW contrast skeleton horde.
I ordered the big box of Japanese soldiers for Bolt Action. It'll be 300 bucks, my largest single purchase in wargaming.
Hopefully when I'm assembling this project I will remember to post on here about it and share my progress with everyone

There's so many bright colors, it feels challenging to a guy who mostly paints historical minis with 8 different shades of beige/khaki
I'm worried because I play Warmaster. A game GW has stopped caring about for well over a decade, so there's no more production of miniatures.
Meanwhile, 3d printing allows for me to build an army and one with arguably better looking models to GW's metal blisters.
Mods for Paradox games are either power fantasies about the developer's personal ideology or this.
