Inflation has hit McDonald’s

Usually I can't help myself but to share process pics as I go, but I'm taking advantage of this situation, having collaborators, to resist that urge for as much of the book as I can. So I am taking process pics but I'll let myself share them later. If that's even fun!? I don't know.

My target has been to "pencil and ink" two pages a day. I'm pretty much doing that. I didn't consider how much time would be spend digitally finishing the pages - which frustrates my math but I'm making it up with my good pace. This calculation comes *after* I thumbnailed the entire book.

Okay got it done. A few messy bits in this one that I’ll have to edit digitally but I’m glad the page is inked all done.

Is it not insane that a third among us approve of this

iPads are not a good tool for drawing [comics]. If you draw on an iPad I think you could draw better using almost anything else.

My son loves to point out flags. It's so cute. So today at the hardware store I bought him a little US flag he can wave around. He loves it. He won't let it go. He's charming! I'm happy. However. The trouble is people keep coming up to me and complimenting my son for being a patriot!!!! 💀🙃💀🤣

Okay here's my [subway] take. Companies that sell leak-proof containers such as tupperware or water bottles must include 2 or 3 spare gaskets with purchase. And/or they should make it easy and cheap to order a replacement. This is like the EU mandating iPhone batteries and cables. This is important.

Sobbing straight through The Pitt

By the end of Claw of the Conciliator I think it is BOTH things. His perfect memory brings her to life in his mind. But also - people keep SEEING Thecla next to him! Like a ghostly presence. That I think is due to the magic of the claw/the conciliator. Wow this book rules.

Finally watching this week’s Pitt and I’m crying… like 15 minutes into the episode. This season has gotten better and better

That explains a LOT

Yes that’s right! But he ate it along with a few dozen others who do this regularly for different people - and no one has the same thing as Severian where he feels like two people in one body for the rest of his life. It affects him more strongly and permanently because of his perfect memory.

I’m enjoying reading Jonas more deliberately and all the hints are sooooooo fun to pick up when I know the reveal.

When do you figure out the citadel is a launch pad, or a spaceship? I saw solid clues but I want to see where he makes that clearer. I read it online clearly but where does it say in the book…? And I just want to look out for all space technology and technology hints. The world is cool!

Other questions I want to get a firmer grasp on with this reading of Book of the New Sun. Is Severian a liar? What does he lie about? Is he a reliable narrator? Is he a misogynist? He presents himself as so sympathetic but what dark things or sins is he hiding?

Let me know what you think!!!

I used to think she was a magical presence that joined his identity somehow. The Claw resurrected her inside of him? I think he says something like that later - but he’s being romantic. Most people share her memories for one night only. He, however, cannot forget anything! So he is changed forever.

Okay I read the chapter on Dinner With Thecla and i think I now understand. Why did Thecla stay with him for life? I used to think it was the magic of the Claw. But now I really think it’s just his memory. In the same way Severian can get lost in his perfect memories - he loses himself in hers.

So I’m reading Claw of the Conciliator for the fourth time. As you know these books can be hard to read but I am now totally in it. I feel like I get everything better this time….

Starting inking this page now - can I get it done in one hour?

I’ve had a hard time with the last few pages of this comic. But i came back and read them after taking a day off and I think it reads really well. So I guess what I take away is to keep calm and believe the thumbnails!
