Yes! Please! More grappling!
This is just crushing to think about in regards to teaching undergrad and grad students...
This should be an impeachable offense. I understand that we’re way past any of that, but that shouldn’t stop us from naming it.
Forgot to link the author, blarg: @dsilver432.bsky.social.
"...The constructivist lesson is that the social world is a gigantic machine that produces social facts. If you do not trace the inner workings of that machine, you will constantly confuse outputs for inputs and explanations for excuses. In other words, you’d be a sucker."
I've been enjoying Dan Silver's substack, but this post on avoiding a "sucker sociology" really speaks to me: open.substack.com/pub/thesilve...
Sociology in the papes! Read @jenniferreich.bsky.social in action.

Never forget that the U.S. can always find money for war, but not for education, health care, or to help those in need. This is 100% a choice. And it is 100% the wrong one. www.csis.org/analysis/37-...
"What I hear you saying..." is part of an active listening strategy that's designed to check in with the listener, and I also hate it.
How’d they take it? Curious.
Confirmation she was the worst.
“The new textbook — edited by staff of the Board of Governors alongside a work group of sociologists — was created in large part by deleting sections of the former textbook…The resulting state-created book is less than half the length of the original text.”
There is nothing I like more than finding an error in a book I’m reading. It is a reminder that we’re all human, that nothing in this plane of existence is perfect.
It is equally shocking and yet wholly expected to see this kind of talk.

*a fun intro into* [Too high on reading Bad Bunny discourse this AM]
my brother millions of metalheads around the world have been happily listening to incomprehensible shrieks and death grunts **IN ENGLISH** since we were teens, you’re just boring and racist
Soc Theory Nerds should check out @dsilver432.bsky.social's always illuminating Substack. The most recent missive, on "The Iron Cage of Authenticity" is fun into Tay Tay's philosophy (Charles Taylor, of course. Did you think Taylor Swift?). thesilverlining3.substack.com/p/the-iron-c...

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.
Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
(You replied to the wrong comment, but I did enjoy learning a little! 😉)
You need to only have a whisper of strength to arm me to buy thin mints.
