The price tag for building enough renewables to power the grid is eerily close to the U.S.’s typical price tag for the kind of war it would take to fully secure the Strait of Hormuz. trib.al/UBpn8gP
Anyways, here’s a piece I wrote last year focused on New York State. rochesterbeacon.com/2025/07/23/i...
While politicians stand against this new form of voter restrictions and disenfranchisement at the federal level, they will still turn around and advocate for their state to be first to hold a presidential primary. That goes against democracy as their state influences the rest.
Oh and the polling places aren’t the same for each too since schools and fire are administered outside the county purview.
In NYS, across school district, fire district, town, village, state, federal, and all the associated primaries, there are sometimes elections in May, June, August, November, and December all in one year.
Pretty incredible that Election Day is truly Election Day across the country. Even in the same state in the US, municipal, town, and village elections can all be held in different years and even different months.
Not to mention utility cost savings and affordability.
We have a real opportunity to leverage beautiful, historic buildings that remain intergenerational households, while making them safer and more energy efficient. Rochester led the way on lead paint removal for rented homes. The next step is addressing energy and holistic wellbeing and safety.
Rochester has a very old building stock and one of the highest percentage of renters for a major city in the country. Yet, most of those renters are in old, single family homes, not multifamily where traditional split incentive efforts focus.
Ah the “split incentive.” Thankfully @imtspeaks.bsky.social and others are doing work on this. And @urbaninstitute.bsky.social and the Climate Solutions Accelerator will have some exciting new policy lever announcements focused on Rochester, NY but applicable elsewhere coming very soon!
Please send and share this online letter, urging NY's legislators to uphold the CLCPA (NY’s Climate Law) and end support for false climate solutions. It’s crucial that they hear from us today and in the coming days as budget negotiations are taking place. actionnetwork.org/letters/lett...
We must defend our Climate Law not only in the legislative realm but also in the regulatory one. A group backed by fossil fuel interests asked NY's Public Service Commission for a hearing on the Climate Law. This could weaken the law. Send this letter by March 30! actionnetwork.org/letters/angr...
Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton's come-from-behind primary win in Democratic-leaning Illinois means that, for the first time ever, the Senate is poised to have three Black women serving simultaneously for the first time.
With his first of now two wins at the games, Jake Adicoff of Team USA becomes the first out gay man to win an individual gold medal at the Winter Paralympics.

Arkansas’ constitution prohibits appointed justices from running for their own position, so two judges are running for each other’s seats. No appointed justice had done this in the 21st century.

NEW: Arkansas bars public officials who've been appointed by the governor to seek a full term for their position.
The 2 justices appointed by Governor Sanders are using a way around that — they're just running for each other's seats.
I wrote on Arkansas' supreme court races coming up in March:
The filing deadline has already passed in many states and key elections have drawn just one candidate. In Nevada, for instance, no one filed to challenge the two conservative supreme court justices who are up for reelection this year.

Governor Cox gets a lot of attention nationally for statements he makes praising moderation or restraint, but he's been pretty lock-step with signing legislation like this or eroding mail voting: boltsmag.org/utah-legisla...
