I have a draft with one of my philosophy colleagues on various arguments for (and against) minding your ps & qs when interacting with anthropomorphic-ish chatbots! Would love your thoughts. Interestingly in the collab he wanted more empirical evidence and I wanted to just write some what ifs 😂
I think that is mostly true if you’re careful to only include pre-treatment variables! But can go wonky otherwise
I agree so much!! I think it was Mark van der Laan that described the causal gap vs the statistical gap — causal gap is almost always the hard part (what variables go into my model?) but once that is settled on, all the traditional stats stuff mostly shakes out the same
I had the pleasure of speaking to students at both Duke University and Wake Forest University about the existential crisis that many of them are feeling right now:
In the age of AI, is my degree worthless?

Interesting fact - while both calendars are drifting relative to the equinox, the Hebrew calendar's drift is much bigger (~1day/3000yrs vs ~1day/200yrs)!
This means that Passover, typically before Easter, will eventually be typically after Easter (in about two thousand years...)
Happy holidays! 🥚
Patrick and I were just talking about the conservation of mess theory. Mess can neither be created nor destroyed, only moved
Waited to post this so no spoilies but goodness once again, 🐝 yesterday with Sherwin-Williams #6397 👀
I am!!! Thank you 🙏 I’ll make an issue to get this in the package!
Talking to some undergrads tomorrow about the why no one actually pays us to type model.fit() and asked them ahead of time to submit answers to a "trivially easy" data problem
Fun to see the results come it, wild to know how many business run with a not dissimilar fog of war
Thank you!! Either way is ok
‼️ what was your conclusion?
YES we’re in the lucky 55% (😮💨) but I grew up one of 6 and can definitely vouch for somewhere around that 87% 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! 🙏 I completely agree re: concentration!
My background is Biostat not chem but I do think we are currently using HOCl as an antiseptic etc on skin, in nasal sprays etc. — in any case, I’m intrigued! Thank you for your perspective! pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Omg Emily I LOVE this. I maintain the {quartets} packages that collects things like this if you’d be interested in adding it!
Maybe we just have a terminology mis match! I’d consider it “milder” in that it isn’t an irritant like bleach at effective levels ✅ but just as effective at killing viruses (or do you disagree? I’m happy to learn!)
Yes! That is the only downside I’ve seen but if I can make it in 8 minutes for same day use during a household noro outbreak seems..ok? 😅
I don’t think so! It seems to work faster than bleach on many viruses and is safe on skin at those ppm (which bleach generally isn’t), from what I can see the disadvantage compared to bleach is just that it isn’t as shelf stable
cc @andrew.heiss.phd + that study about germs and household size that lives rent free in my head 😂
👋 nerd friends, who had heard of hypochlorous acid? Apparently kills norovirus in one minute?? And safe on skin?? And I can make it in my kitchen with a bit of electrolysis?? 👀

Show me your silly project!!! My sister and I recorded a stats parody of I’m on a boat and it will be dropping here as soon as it’s mixed 🤣
Eigenspace Jam
Saw Jen Tullock’s amazing show and was so enamored throughout that I snapped not a single photo, but got to chat after for a bit with the brilliant @hamburgerwaiter.bsky.social …we did discuss elevator pitches 👀😅
So proud of @ashleymullan.bsky.social -- featured on the cover of @significancemag.bsky.social! Check out her beautiful interrupted time series plot 😍
I think Discord can be great! But will be inherently different, one of the parts that is still not quite anywhere else yet is all of the fancy people were in the same space (and not just for altruistic reasons!) as the newbies, so it was an amazing place to connect across levels
😢 I miss it too! I have so much to thank #rstats twitter for! Definitely my postdoc with Jeff, internship with Jenny& getting to hang with you at unconfs! I was just telling Noam how much I miss those. I feel like one problem now is there doesn’t feel like *one* place I know everyone will be talking
