Leeds-Malton train is phenomenally expensive for a sub 1hr journey, so at least I can rinse the ticket by breaking the journey!

Blue Bell as great as ever. Free cheese& crackers on Sundays. Nice chat with locals.

I remember selling tickets for those! There was a special wallet that you put the ticket and reservation in. Yorkshire TV actors used the Leeds one, they often bought tickets themselves and I served Bill Owen (Compo in Last of the Summer Wine) and Thora Hird among others!

you know the way "why did the Roman Empire fall" and "what are the causes of the First World War" are big questions that sort of function like Rorsharch tests, allowing people to debate ultimately inexplicable moments in history? "Why did no one stop Trump" a decent future shout for the third.

Utopian Sumave Pilsner

Utopian Sumave Pilsner

Tonight's beer of the day is Sumave Pilsner from @teamutopian.bsky.social. An easy drinking beer especially for the ABV. Quite a distinct bitter aftertaste, in a good way. #bskybeer

Shea Charles stuns Arsenal to send Southampton into FA Cup semis With 84 and a half minutes on the clock, Mikel Arteta presumably suspected Viktor Gyökeres, one of his substitutes, had taken an absorbing FA Cup tie to extra time. Gyokeres cancelled out Ross Stewart’s first-half strike, seizing on his first whiff of goal, but it was Shea Charles, a second-half arrival for Southampton, who earned the Championship hosts victory and passage to the semi-finals. Another sub, Cyle Larin, started the move, protecting the ball with his back to goal. Charles, who was also involved in the buildup, calmly gathered Tom Fellows’ pass and found the corner to cue ecstasy in the stands. For Saints, just the fifth team to beat the Premier League leaders this season, the spirit of 76 lives on. For Arsenal, after suffering Carabao Cup pain at Wembley, this spelled successive defeats for the first time this season and now their season really is at risk of unravelling. Continue reading...

Wow. Sadiq Khan asks Keir Starmer to not only “rejoin the EU Customs Union and the Single Market this Parliament”, but also to “fight the next general election with a clear manifesto commitment: a vote for Labour means we would rejoin the European Union”, without a second #Brexit referendum 👏

Story behind the story: Bass is now brewed by Carlsberg (formerly Marstons). I got in touch with their press office to see if we could put a name to the unsung hero(es) who decided they were going to make Bass great again. They completely ignored me. (1/2)

Farage hasn’t a midge’s dick of humanity in him. Seriously damaged as a child, obviously, but an obvious danger to GB democracy ( and common goodness and empathy)
