Chelsea: 5 straight losses. Zero goals scored.

What a collapse.

It must be shit supporting the likes of Bayern, PSG, Celtic etc. Absolutely zero jeopardy. Even with an off season where you finish 2nd, you know you’ll win it again the season after with loads of new signings your rivals cannot afford.

5 points from 5 games should be doubtable, even for us, especially given 3/5 are at Anfield. They’ve not got the easiest run in either. Leeds and Forest fighting for their lives. S’land and Brighton away are never easy, although there’s a guaranteed 3pts vs Spurs in there!

They’re even more inconsistent than us so probably not. PPG suggests they’ll get to 55/56 so I agree with one more win.

64 points guarantees CL next season. 3 wins from 5 and it’s confirmed, and that’s if any of the three teams on 48 win their remaining 5 games, which is unlikely. Despite being wank for most of the season you’d still back us in our home games. The Chelsea game is huge and probably pivotal.

One thing that saw us over the line last season was our ability to overcome adversity, something that is severely lacking this season. It was helped by Arsenal’s massive fragility and their tendency to implode at the first sign of misfortune. The question is, has that followed them into this season?

The Smith-Rowe chance was their only real effort and the fact it didn’t go in made the finale routine. If it goes in our heads probably go but it didn’t so we’re dealing in hypotheticals instead of what transpired. It was certainly less chaotic than 90% of games this season.

A routine 2-0 win. Early goals and a clean sheet makes a nice change for the reds. A few more of those in the run in would be very welcome.

Well, three, including one where the players looked pissed after winning the league in 2020.

But the overall picture is symptomatic of a deeper problem. Losing heavily multiple times isn’t acceptable for a club like ours. We’ve seen Houllier, Rafa, Rodgers and even Klopp go through rough patches, and still receive support, but very rarely did they get an absolute pasting.

It’s not the first big defeat of the season either. 0-3 to Forest and 1-4 to PSV were also unacceptable. Losing heavily one game happens (7-2 Villa) but it doesn’t define a season. When its happens for the third time in 30 games people become less tolerant.

They say that until something entirely avoidable costs a team big. As always, VAR is a tool that gets used wrong by the idiots in charge.
