I popped out to buy Brian Bilston's new book today and, as is my way, I picked up a couple of other titles too - as you might of guessed I kind of like to read things about how words find their way into minds from the printed page ...

Hello Gabriela - it's good to see you here - especially as I realise how very busy you must be with your latest anthology.
I wish you well with it and with your upcoming novel. As for me I'm busy finalising a poetry manuscript - I'm working with a UK indie publisher to release later this year.

Another Word

Another you ... untrue
another me ... mistaken
another time ... soon
another promise ... broken
another word ... confused

Muse

His words now too confused
his way his and his muse
he’s real and of this world
she of a life absurd
the end of one begun
the other looking on

I caught myself talking
to a man I didn’t know.
He didn’t answer, as if
I wasn’t there. Yet he
asked questions I ask
myself. Strange man,
I hear him now and then.

You haven’t, yet you have,
you’ve seen, sensed a form
as art of me, nude all shades
of being, real, within my lines
sketched a woman, barely known
yet you see through, imagine me
you a man, I haven’t, yet I too see.

Of science, a mind to see,
record, interpret visualise, explain,
models, extrapolation statistics, predictions
simply put, simply told stories.

And what of poetry a late beginning
near an end, a life, looking back,
no, more reflection suspended moments
spin opposite of him, relative yet not.

This is just so frustrating,
my mind has been so twisted,
I’d no intention of us not meeting,
not carrying on talking, not anything.

I don't like it when I feel you’re mad
at me, I’m just me, I’m so confused
now too. I do hope we’re okay,
please tell me we’re okay.

For sure your writing is you - your style, your way with words.

I like the you you show with words ...

Not taken, no offence, not you
my mistake, misplaced touch
mine, yours, we should have
I would today, I know, I hear you
we wavered, that was yesterday.

She stood beyond reason
male logic lay in ruins
neither felt the earth move
yet divided by a chasm

You know me, I'll win
I don't make mistakes
you all get me wrong
you need me, just say it
and we'll all be fine, why
should I apologise, I'm
a great man you're not
now tell me, does the king
eat burgers, I'll entreat him
good - what do you mean
words mean anything I want

I just felt a little vulnerable, call
it a foible if you like, a transient
weakness, don't we all need to be
assured we're real from time to time
especially in this message world
where, as you said, the reading
of words, or absence of them
can be taken out of context ...

I'm so very sorry to hear you
feel that way. I'm me. I'm not perfect.
I know that I have my faults and yes I do
lack confidence, but I assure you
I'm genuine, please believe me.

Woke to frost today
white crystals melt
as sunlight said hello
before she stirred her
duvet warmth to say
'I'd like to walk with
you in daffodils' he said
I know a place, okay'

He spots her out the corner of his eye
a natural distractor, eyed up by all
the way she moves, the way she briefly touches
he can’t resist a smile, he is not immune

'You're here, I'm here what are
we waiting for?'

'I was about to leave, now you've
got me thinking.'

'While you're thinking why don't
you spend some time with me?'

'I think I will, I'm spellbound by
your smile.'

He waved she blew a kiss
his pace quickened her heart raced
overtaken a stranger in her place
her arms empty his arms full
she screamed, her dark cloud answered
bolt of lightning, they no more
be careful what you wish for
fate doesn’t always get you right

He rushed the steps
reached the platform
a minute before his train
arrives, adjacent track
a train departs, her face
looks out, a stranger,
she smiles, she knows
she's left him spellbound

As she approached, he stood
doffed his cap, looked down
rubbed dirt from short trousered knees
timid in her presence yet found voice
‘My Lady,’ she smiled back, unruly hair
a scruff, young, naïve, her eyes found his
her blush of memory, of being loved, adored.

It started on a Sunday
as spring broke, her line
to him 'I'm here, you're here
what are we waiting for?'
a summer, autumn, winter
she's kept him believing
he obsessed with someone
felt yet not heard or seen ...

Divisible by time
distance between
bodies, once close
become distant, more
felt than measured
the velocity of emotion
full on to ticking over
if real on it's recall
heart beats quicken

She knows he's listening
half-moon late afternoon
as rare as blue sky this day
of February, stars align
over England, her eyes
precede, a stellar coupling

What is this
naked, an embrace
a bare trust
what couldn't be

A local park, he sat on a bench
where she’d said she’d be.

A river path, he trod on leaves
in belief her feet would be there too.

A bus stop where she said she’d
get off, he waited till quite dark.

He saw her once, she said not me
blatant, she’d not taken steps at all.
