This is genuinely one of my favorite stories I've had the pleasure to edit. @justinbarney.bsky.social got all the goods... and the song seriously rocks.

It’s not as if a generation of space journalists and thinkers have been writing about this and saying it out loud for years haha
NYT has a misleading story up right now. It's true there were staffing shortages at the NWS office in Jackson, but they were fully staffed last night and warning people well ahead of the storm. www.lpm.org/news/2025-05...
BNA will surprise you. Shockingly delightful interactions as a local at that airport
A measure that would allow schools to refuse undocumented students is likely dead for the 2025 legislative session. WPLN's @mariannabac.bsky.social reports that's after a state review found the bill could’ve jeopardized more than $1 billion in federal education funding.
I hate that this post (from 2017) is still just as relevant as it was when it was published... It's also still the best headline I've ever written. mashable.com/article/nasa...
We all live near freshwater, and wetlands are an extension of our rivers, creeks and aquifers.💧
This is why a proposed law to drop protections could cause serious economic and ecological harm.
"The flight’s roster seems to have been assembled with the energy of an American Girl doll collection, with seats awarded to women with different claims to fame and relevance." www.nytimes.com/2025/04/14/a...
Many news reports have claimed Tennessee is fixing its school threats law, which has resulted in felony charges for rumors and jokes.
But those reports are inaccurate.
Instead, Tennessee is adding a whole new felony charge to the books. via @paigepfleger.bsky.social

The measure has passed the Tennessee Senate, 19-13.
The scene outside the Tennessee Senate as lawmakers are soon to vote on whether to deny undocumented students an education.
Republican leaders used a different entrance to avoid protesters.
Trump policies don't just pose an existential threat to elite, private institutions. Every university is at risk.
Going to a state school shaped me. This story really hit home.
The Atomic Spectroscopy Group provides standardized measurements used across wide swaths of science and industry. The Trump administration plans to cut it.
JUST IN: Supreme Court has turned down a request to take up Trump ally Steve Wynn's bid to upend the landmark NYT v. Sullivan press freedom precedent.
Metro has joined a federal lawsuit attempting to halt the Trump administration’s federal funding freeze on various community programs. WPLN's Cynthia Abrams reports it has put $14 million in transit and infrastructure projects at risk in Nashville.
Tomorrow, @wpln.bsky.social environmental reporter @carolineeggers.bsky.social joins Khalil Ekulona for an updated in-depth look at this bill. Join us at noon on 90.3 or at thisisnashville[dot]org.
Right now, if 25% of a school population is low-income, the entire school gets free lunch. The Trump administration wants to change that trigger to 60%.
Students across Middle Tennessee would be affected.

This is so, so smart and exactly the right call.
This perspective is so incredibly cool
back on my bullshit
Worries about AI are nothing new. New tech has made people nervous for a long time. So, when should we worry? wpln.org/post/nashvil... @wpln.bsky.social
A measure to allow schools to refuse undocumented students has just cleared a Tennessee House subcommittee. Protestors say they’ll be back:
honestly, yes
would subscribe... and also probably edit lol
Sometimes looking back is a good predictor of what the future could look like...
The U.S. Supreme Court this week refused to hear a legal challenge to Tennessee's so-called drag ban, leaving in place a lower court’s ruling that found plaintiffs didn’t have standing to sue. WPLN's @mariannabac.bsky.social says LGBTQ advocates see the ruling as a win.
This is on now. Paige and Aliyya’s work has been so thorough, and TIN is giving them some time to really dive into it.
Tennessee’s drag ban will remain in effect, as the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to take up a legal challenge to the law.
But LGBTQ advocates may have another avenue to oppose the ban in East Tennessee.

From a FOIA perspective, "the entire federal workforce should write down and email what they did last week" is extremely funny
