Interesting that the toll was used to boost finances to pay for flood defences in the Hutt. Like a 19th century climate resilience fund. Looked like the destruction worked though, as since it was thrown in the harbour, the road was free for vehicular & other traffic. Source, the Press,1893 14 June.

Been thinking a lot about this photo from the collections. John Pascoe & his buddies hanging out in the Southern Alps in the 1920s & '30s. Looks like fun. I might get into back country tramping again.

Petone to Pito-one name change gets backing from Hutt City Council Pito-one became Petone following colonial settlement in the 19th century, a misspelling of the area's traditional name. Now, it may change back.

As a Pito-one resident I'm very pleased to see this.

I've got a 7 year old just desperate to learn about rugby at their show case event and I'm really struggling to explain. He's gone outside to play football instead.

Kia ora Bluesky. I got a bit timid on the other place with all the shouting. Hoping I can engage a bit more on archives, library, history stuff here.
