@kaine.senate.gov @markwarner.bsky.social Why isn't ending qualified immunity for ICE & CBP agents the non-negotiable demand for even beginning to negotiate any funding for DHS? A proudly lawless agency won't be constrained by the cosmetic concessions Dems are seeking.

Elections have consequences.

I’ve known & worked on & off with Charlie for 10+ years. He’s the real thing & he’s for the people who often get left behind. Vote for him if you live in the district & can go on Sunday!

Oh, the paws curled up! 😍
If the last sentence is sarcasm, I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to explain everyone’s feelings.
This is why I rarely comment… bad faith arguments & uncharitable assumptions abound.
That’s a long-term investment that, thankfully, many of us can afford to make & see it work out much later. But many people don’t have that luxury & the expense of higher ed these days is a barrier to basic economic stability for them. I don’t blame their resentment.
I can’t blame @alcibiades1234.bsky.social for viewing it as work training. Our economic system makes that a necessity for lots of folks without the luxury I had when I was college age. All kinds of nonessential learning has enriched my life, including my work. But the pressure many face…
Tom was my representative in Congress when he served. I will always admire his integrity and energy—from his improbable defeat of disastrous Virgil Goode to his risky vote for the ACA. ✊✌️
Just like the witches of Salem who were trying not to drown just so they could cast more spells, obviously.
This strategy of the establishment lining up en masse to endorse a safely centrist (passionless?) candidate seems to be the new way for Dems. Electorally it worked with Spanberger, didn’t work with McAuliffe.
I hadn’t heard, but not surprised. I now see all the other endorsements she has. Very disappointing. Her platform looks to lean Republican, she’s taken a ton of money from Dominion, and seems seems to favor cop-first solutions. (Has she even condemned DHS immigration enforcement abuses?)
My name is Salaam. I’m a public interest lawyer running for Congress in VA-1.
Here’s my platform:
- tax billionaires
- health care for all/strong safety net
- campaign finance reform
- ban stock trading for congressmembers
- end the genocide in Gaza
Follow along & join the fight.
Having worked with Salaam several years ago, I can vouch for his dedication, energy, creativity, and moral compass. He won’t sell anyone out. 👍✌️
I kind of feel like it’s better if Spanberger avoids comment on the field of candidates, at least. I think she’s likely to support the least progressive, most accommodationist candidate. I look forward to the field giving us some options.
When did “whites” first apear anyway?
Yes! You need to demand accountability and transparency for domestic detention conditions, too. It’s outrageous the admin is defying the law, denying congress access to visit detention centers here. As bad as what we see on the streets is, can you imagine what DHS is doing to people in secret?

For someone who criticized Trump for maybe being the American Hitler, Vance sure is trying to position himself to be the American Hitler when Trump is gone.
Yeah, that’s not exactly sticking her neck out for a substantive issue, though. We’ll see how she spends her political capital.
I do wonder what substantive goals Spanberger would use a mandate to pursue. Moderation and bipartisanship seem to be her strongest principles. Besides reproductive healthcare and fair elections, what will she fight for? (Real question.)
@kaine.senate.gov People can come together & donate to food banks to help feed their neighbors when SNAP is delayed. But when affordable health insurance is ripped away, we can’t just rally to help each other. You pulled a birthright-for-pottage exchange. SMH.
Was the surrender last night really about assuring the billionaire and corporate donor class that elected Dems won’t rock their boat—despite the Mamdani win, blue wave, and 7 million protesters? A Sister Souljah moment, in a sense, throwing its base under the bus?
Honed over the years (not ‘honestly’).
