I crushed my finger. x_x

If for a while people notice in my videos I have one black fingernail, now you know.

Compared to the 730A I really love how this has swing-out boards instead of slotted boards that need riser cards to test.

And before someone says “check capacitors”, it’s inconclusive.
Most seemed okay for ESR but there was no smoking gun. This isn’t a trivial fault and with no service data I can’t do anything.

For tomorrow's video we're taking a $50 gamble.

(and paying $200 in gas..)

I wonder if it just needs some oil. 🤔

Yes, in particular I was thinking of the Osmocom-analog SDR-based system and the older grAMPS simulator which also relied on an SDR.

I'm also not going back because the wind decided to play Hairdresser.

I was out gathering footage the other day and after 11 hours in the field I'm assembling things and realizing how badly I screwed multiple things up.

Oh well, I'm not going for another 11 hour road trip for a reshoot! 🤪

Any idea yet what went pop?

If Discord allowed third party clients, sure. No problem. Fifteen bucks and I can annoy TubeTime directly from my Quadra 950. There's guidelines followed and protections in place.

But this feels like those Honda ECU tune kits that are Pay-Per-Flash and they encrypt the EEPROM so you can't reflash.

Now, if this was released for free? What if he put a donation button somewhere to help cover the time to write this?

No problem from me! I wouldn't be here right now making a stink and fouling up everyone's Sunday night.

..Okay, I'm done.

What I will do however is say I'm the snitch and I ask of you to do the same and report MacinCord for violating the ToS, if to force Alex's hand and drop the cost of his software.

To quote 68KMLA's condescending way of moderation:
"I'm sorry some people cannot appreciate the hard work of others."

I get these retro clients are fun. I am not telling you to avoid them. I'm telling you to be careful. A throwaway account on a retro client is still free. A throwaway account on MacinCord still costs you $15. Why spend $15 on that when you can go buy something from McDonalds?

In addition, I will take the controversial step and advise those who are still interested to violate his EULA. Crack it. Copy it. Disable the phone-home. Send him a polite message.
What if discord DOES pay attention? How many refunds can you handle? Dozens? Hundreds? Will he refund everyone?

6 days ago 7 1 1 0

Unless Discord provides granted permission in hard copy form I am strongly warning everyone to not touch this client because the safety of your account is not guaranteed.
Not just from a ban but because the Man int he Middle method to support the client can be exploited and potentially hijacked.

Alex's response to this has been "eh, the other clients have not had problems, so you're probably fine."

This is very dangerous. You can't waive responsibility like this.

So what's my beef?

Discord's Terms of Service has never allowed third party clients. Up until now the other unofficial clients have been free because if you get whacked by discord, you were the one taking the risk, but now there's money involved.

Alex has also taken considerable effort to control licensing and key auditing. He generates the keys. His software phones home to validate and he has the ability to disable the software if he invalidates your key. The key can only be used five times.

Nothing wrong with this...sort of.
There's already a bunch of retro discord clients for other platforms already available. You can just download them.
Alex however isn't so nice. You get three days to trial it, then you have to cough up $15usd ($21CAD)
"It's only the cost of McDonalds."

In the last 24 hours, Alex Hoopes (who runs oldapplestuff.com) released a retro discord client that works under the classic MacOS from 9.1 all the way down to 7.1 (open transport does not work on 7.0....)
Runs on PowerPC. Runs on M68K.

Okay, it's time for me to make my occasional rant.
I don't like stirring the pot in communities but sometimes people pull stunts I can't endorse and have to advise others to exercise caution.

I'll make this a thread so that if you want to disregard this it's pretty easy. Here we go...

High speed vacuum tube analog-to-digital converter from Tektronix. Maybe I'll make this do something.

I would like to add it was a beautiful -25 outside. Why would you not want to dress for the occasion?
