It was a lot of fun sitting down to chat about the polls!

Definitely give it a listen :^)

Correct. Thats the reason they are systematically ignored by charities and tax based credits have little to no value in that context.

Who doesn’t love polls? Am I right.

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming @canadianpolling.bsky.social and Andrew Enns of Leger to talk about how things are changing in Canadian public opinion.

(Hint: It’s not all about Trump).

Nearly 1 in 2 charitable dollars in Canada comes from wealthy donors. That’s a problem.

Last weekend PM Carney made a call to build our social capital during this crisis moment.

The charitable sector needs to heed that call and change.

Ideally there is a more proportional distribution. Obviously those with greater disposable income can, should and will contribute more. But the problem is both charitable sector culture as well as tax system design.

I am less concerned with changing the level of donations by those with money as opposed to increasing uptake at the bottom end - both by getting charities into a more grassroots organizing mentality but also some targeted tax system changes.

As a board member at a charity (and employee of another) I can testify that the ground seems to be shifting in charitable fundraising from broad-based small/medium donations to chasing a limited number of larger donors.

That’s not healthy. Given the public importance of the charitable sector…

Let us admire 🇨🇦 democracy.

In an election previously decided by 1 vote and then annulled by the Supreme Court, this time the margin was over 700.

Within hours the runner up conceded and wished the new MP well.

In other countries this could have been chaos. Not Canada

Thank you for this thoughtful response. I think many are asking these same fundamental questions.

I am struggling right now with my own beliefs & thoughts. I am tired of the system we have but if we cannot defeat the parties that will destroy Canada (UCP/SKParty), then what are we doing?
I'm starting to think it's better to join a "winner" that can defeat evil & try to push for change within it

One fantastic and well overdue part of today’s nature strategy announcement is this 👇

Natural assets like land, water and forests have value.

But we don’t account for them as such on our balance sheet.

Which makes conservation harder to do sometimes.

Let’s look at how to change that.

BC politics is a two party system so BC NDP - like Alberta - is a function of a much wider coalition

Support for the federal NDP is one third higher (16% v 12%) in Calgary compared to Toronto.

This speaks to two things

1) the enduring brand of the Alberta NDP despite very big differences with the federal party that benefits the latter

2) how bad the Ontario NDP is
