So sad. I've heard stories about mother's holding their breaths each summer when kids went swimming. They were terrified their children would be infected with polio.

I plan to! But Indies are another way to explore my voice. It's challenging not to subconsciously conform to their generic style, so I started writing completely different stories to feel free again.

They haven't had many concerns about sentence length. I'm told I have very light edits. Mostly editors will change/reverse meaning. Each have favorite generic words & phrasing, which gets repetitive & is jarring because they aren't my style. I work hard to preserve my voice, but it's challenging.

Right, no treatment for measles other than supportive care. There is for chicken pox. Of the two, measles is the scariest to me. As I understand it, estimates say 200 million people WW died of measles between 1855 & 2005 & a huge % of cases have one or more serious outcomes.

It's endless. Measles is another scary one. We're so careful with someone in the family because they can't be vaccinated for measles, mumps or chickenpox (their immune system was wiped out by chemo). They nearly died from chickenpox as a kid & now they could get it again.

I know someone with return polio syndrome. So even if you survive relatively unscathed, you can suffer later. I also wish they'd develop a vaccine for WNV. Two members of my family nearly died with horrendous complications. One past recently, possibly from cardiac damage it caused.
