I don't really remember either! I just assume you couldn't download stuff in the background since I was so impressed by the PS3 being able to do it. I vaguely remember downloading and installing stuff but never in the background
For a console I found it pretty impressive, I'm pretty sure the 360 didn't have it! But also obviously PCs of the time could easily do it. I didn't get my PS3 until much later but my brother and some of my friends had them so I saw a lot of stuff that made me jealous lol
