Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Absolutely incredible.

NASA Astronaut Reid Wiseman, who commanded Artemis II, took this footage from the far side of the Moon with his iPhone.

Humble Premier buys private jet second-hand QUEEN’S PARK – Salt-of-the-earth Ontarian Premier Doug Ford acknowledged that the province had made the ultimate sacrifice of getting him a used private jet for the discounted price of just $28.9 million. The province considered several options for this obviously non-negotiable form of transport, according to sources willing to speak for the notoriously-bashful Premier. “We […] The post Humble Premier buys private jet second-hand appeared first on The Beaverton.

This Backyard Bird Has a Lot to Teach Us about Sex Variability White-throated Sparrows demonstrate that traits we usually associate with sex can be influenced by genes that are not on sex chromosomes

The white-stripe morphs, male & female, act in a way that is stereotypically "masculine" (loud elaborate songs, more aggressive) with tan-stripe morphs, regardless of gonads, acting more "feminine" (nurturing young).

Their offspring will be a 50/50 mix of morph & 50/50 mix of male/female.

"The bird with four (mating) sexes."
In Zonotrichia albicollis, tan-striped males seek out white-striped females, while white-striped males court tan-striped females.

Morphs are behaviorally "masculine" & "feminine", separate from gonadal sex.

Sincerity can win over a lot more people than the perfectly crafted talking points can. Carney is a lot more sincere than Trudeau was, but he's still a calculating banker beneath that charming smile and wit.

That’s stupid thing to say. I was clearly mad from the start of this thread. I didn’t suddenly get mad when your dumb ass showed up.

Urgent need for a windfall profits tax on oil and gas How to prevent the fossil fuels corporations from making a killing on this illegal war, and put the revenues to better use

"Taxing the oil and gas companies’ profits means we can deploy some of those revenues directly helping lower and modest-income households, while using some of the funds to expedite our transition off these deadly fuels."

It's actually kinda funny how brilliantly Carney just stole old conservative ideas out from under poilievre and repackaged them into blood red liberal patriotism

Through Meta Glasses, Darkly How do we solve a problem like the commodification of mass wearable surveillance? Social norms and market pressure are a start, but above all, we need a political response like regulation.

"Like common lands privatized for profit or industrial pollution socializing costs, surveillance glasses turn our public life —parks, pubs, cafés, the outside world— into a negative externality. Private gain is built on degeneration of a shared commons".

There are many things I’m very proud of as a Canadian. MANY things. But every time I watch another media story about another ambitious push in renewable energy from China, I’m embarrassed that Canada isn’t aggressively working to quickly become a true global powerhouse in renewable energy.
