Something to consider. The disabled list opens when pitchers and catchers report. That will allow us to move players to the 60-day IL. That removes them from the 40 man roster. With how we prioritize depth, and how close that day is, you could 100% see this as a part of the #Braves strategy

Historical question. Looking back at the past few FA classes, should we have projected the “need” for a starter sooner? I know it’s revisionist history. But if we extended Fried or Dansby, don’t we reduce a lot of the “needs” we had going into this offseason? What deal do you wish we’d have done?
If you are looking at guys that got caught in yesterday’s roster crunch across MLB, would our 40-man not be stronger with JJ Bleday and Ramon Urias on it? If it’s about depth, that seems like we could upgrade here
It did seem like a high portion of players, even if selected, got returned last year. Is a trend developing? As scouting and player development continues to be “currency” and more resources are allocated, maybe less outliers for Rule 5 shocks will emerge. Hence making the roster spot more valuable?
The trend last year seemed to be low for Rule 5 guys who “stuck” all year:
On average, ~45% overall (2020–2024 combined “stuck” (weighted by number of picks), with year-to-year variation — e.g., 2023 looked unusually good (~73% stuck), while 2024 looked low (~33%)
Maybe that’s the Braves bet?
When we talk about Ha-Seong Kim,we miss the point. How many SS have gone off the board, including Dansby, to get painted into this corner? I will give AA the Arcia AS year, but are we going to end up giving Kim $20m when we could have given Dansby $23 to stay? This discussion isn’t talked about enough
I guess I’m clairvoyant! Time for you to go a little deeper in the pitching metrics :) hahahaha
Love it. I guess it depends on if they see something, but overall, I’m all for guys that have had high level success versus banking on guys like Bryan De La Cruz. If they fit into arb and control window where you can take a flier, I’m all for it. And if they show promise, maybe they stick for depth
So along those same lines, and seeing the controlability. Alex Manoah, sign me up. Certainly worth a similar flier. With history of success, and he’s a southern boy. Why not? You love pitching peripherals. Worth a flier?
Seems like a logical time to basically jump the line for more controllable and potentially high quality non-roster invitees, with the risk only being jamming up the 40 man, and termination pay to trial them. Tell me what I’m wrong about there? I feel like a lot of fans just view at as the scrap heap
So that seems plausible. I think it is a good time for AA to trial these guys, for 2 reasons 1) they have waiver priority with a lot of those teams below them not looking to spend (although cheap with a week left) & 2) if they need waiver clearance a lot of big market teams need roster spots for now
Question. Maybe @crosbybaseball.bsky.social knows. For guys like Payamps and Alexis Diaz, can’t we tender them a contract and cut them in spring if they don’t show the improvement the team is looking for? Or are we bound to them because of arbitration rules? I know that changed slightly in 2022?
I’m at this game in Toronto. Out of 24 outs through 8 innings, 18 are strikeouts. Do we…..suck?
Got ya. Profar explained it. I was wondering why it went down for $233. That’s why you are the man. Good context
At least the Braves didn’t struggle with runners in scoring position tonight. Oh wait…..no game.
Progress?
Right. I remember it was a tense decision because of money and what his salary rose to. Not because he didn’t fit what the Braves needed, and still do IMO
Huge news here. Does show we are one or two injuries from the exact same shit bucket as last year though. lol
Profar with a wrist injury!?!?! Here we go again. lol
Lot to put on Drake Baldwin, but will be good to see what we have: $$$
In 2024 TD was paid $8mil, and Murphy paid $9mil - Total $17mil
In 2025 if Murphy is paid $15mil and Baldwin and Tromp league min of $760, let’s round to $1.5mil for both of them. - Total $16.5mil
Maybe more risk. Same money.
I always love the opening day roster projections. However, if AA has taught us anything, it’s that he is going to option someone who may be better than a person they keep on the roster. It’s all about organizational depth.
Remember those comments from AA about being a top 5 payroll? Hey @justinctoscano.bsky.social can we ask him about that when you interview him this spring? Wonder what he would say about that. Wait until the end of the season? We were last year? Curious
At this point it does make sense until pitchers and catchers report to make a move, but I still believe we need a couple arms before running it back #braves
See, this makes no sense to me. This isn’t a better depth move for the Braves? You are telling me Lopez had a better shot to play behind Dansby? No shot. He would have come here on a minor league deal. These are the moves that are upsetting to me www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/cubs...
Nicky Lopez? Kike? How about Laureano as a depth outfielder? They don’t all have to be Bregman type moves. This Braves roster can still improve.
This is why if you get a starter, Holmes can push to the long man. I still think that has to be the play.
Who is next up on the 40 man? If they make a move?
Profar is NOT a Boras client anymore… So the Atlanta Braves streak holds. lol.
And probably why the deal was one of the only deals to fall below projections this off-season
The blue box of destiny is back!!! Woohoo!!
Wouldn’t have hated this as a depth move.
