In recorded calls, reports of overcrowding and lack of food at ICE detention centers ICE detentions have surged, but deportations have not. In the past month, NPR spoke to dozens of detainees, families and lawyers who spoke of overcrowded centers in Florida lacking food and medicine.

People in ICE detention are being denied health care and adequate nutrition, often given spoiled food or nothing at all.

Our government’s cruelty to immigrants is a moral failing — not a policy solution.

The Weaponization of I.C.E. is a Danger to Immigrants and a Disgrace to America Recently, I was in a local church here in my home state of North Carolina discussing the impact of the Trump Administration on vulnerable populations.

The incessant, unnecessarily violent, and largely illegal assaults on neighborhoods, workplaces, and carpool lines all crystallize this Administration's commitment to cause trauma for people of color, not protect them from it—and it's a flat-out disgrace.

Keeping an eye on this. It could be beneficial if blue states joined together to provide essential services to their people.

Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial
proceedings,
, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the
rebellion.

The Insurrection Act is sweeping. It’s a huge grant of power to the President.

It is also very expressly for conditions that do not exist in California. And if you’re hypothetically the governor, you should be saying so.

The California legislature and city & county governments should file injunctions and draft emergency legislation prohibiting the quartering of now-federalized troops on private property including hotels under the Third Amendment.

Make the Guard bivouac on the ground on federal property.

At 0:21 - That’s me!

We were protesting the fascistic ICE (read: American Gestapo) raids today and the unjust attack on and arrest of SEIU-USWW President David Huerta (who was demonstrating against the ICE raids this morning)

The Trump administration is bypassing state authority by invoking Title 10 of the U.S. Code, a federal power usually reserved for major insurrections. This is a dangerous overreach, and it’s how martial law begins in the so-called land of the free.

Trump is deploying 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the governor’s request or consent. Governor Newsom has publicly condemned the move, calling it “purposefully inflammatory.”

Per the UN, Russian drone operators are picking off Ukrainian civilians “like it is a video game” — then bombing ambulances that go to help… then sharing videos of it on telegram.

Trump today on the consequences: “words speak pretty loud” 🤔

Sorry Ticketmaster and Airbnb — America's era of hidden fees is over Ticketmaster and Airbnb now have to list prices up front, instead of tacking on hidden fees at the end. This new "all-in

Hidden fees in live-event ticketing and hotels are now illegal under a Biden-era FTC rule that just took effect.

Kudos to former FTC Chair Lina Khan, whose leadership could finally make junk fees a thing of the past.

Republicans’ budget bill earmarks a staggering $45 billion for immigrant detention centers.

The biggest beneficiaries? Private prison companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group – who both donated hefty sums to Trump’s inauguration.

Always follow the money.

Casar: "The only way to push back on this is for Democrats to be really clear that if we win back a majority, we aren't just going to let bygones be bygones. We have to go and investigate who paid Trump, who paid Musk, who made money off of these pardons because that is really serious."

Time to move Wikipedia, Internet Archive and all the rest of the good free internet off American soil. Or establish parallel failover backups elsewhere around the world at least.

All people residing in the U.S. — documented or undocumented — are supposed to have access to the courts and due process.

The Trump regime arresting Judge Hannah Dugan for defending those rights puts us in very dangerous territory.

Judge Blocks Trump From Defunding 16 Sanctuary Cities: ‘Here We Are Again’ A federal judge in San Francisco who issued a nearly identical order in 2017 found himself intervening again to stop President Trump from punishing cities over their immigration policy.

A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked the government from enforcing part of one of President Trump’s executive orders that directs agencies to withhold funds from cities and counties that don’t cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
