I decided to use up the remaining pumpkin in our freezer by making a quadruple batch of my favorite pumpkin chocolate chip nut muffin recipe. Unfortunately, I made multiple mistakes and they came out not so great. Some days the kitchen karma is not with you.

I love taking public transit when I travel. I spent nearly two weeks in Barcelona without ever taking a taxi or their uber equivalent (which I couldn't figure out). We are starved for regional transit here in autotopia.

I've been reorganizing my whole house and aggressively decluttering, and the fact that I am dealing with a foot injury that limits the daily steps I can take is really bringing into focus what a burden excessive belongings are. With healthy a foot, those steps could still be used better!

I keep forgetting that my brain only gives me the stuff when I turn on the faucet, aka open a doc and start typing

I would love to have an inter generational home with my parents and my son. Haven’t figured out how to make it happen, yet.

I keep saying this. I’m especially puzzled by the semi threatening tone of the AI hype people. “AI has changed my life and you’d better get used to it because it’s coming for your job.” Uh, thanks?

For example, I had the beats of a short story all worked out. I got to the penultimate scene and realized the character would never do what I wanted her to do. Instead of forcing it to “finish the draft,” I came up with a MUCH BETTER ending, but to get there had to rewrite from the start. Worth it!

I don’t see the point in finishing a “draft” if the story isn’t clicking. It’s just wasted time.

I go back and rework the beginning as much as the story evolves until it pushes me in the direction I need to go.

That sounds super reasonable

That’s ok! Thanks for trying to track it down. Your summary makes a lot of sense.

I have not heard of any damage to Zingerman's Roadhouse. Some of the businesses on that corner lost power. The horse head sign for Knight's steakhouse was damaged.

A large tree fallen between two single-story houses. There is a tarp on the roof of the house on the right. Behind an orange striped road barrier and cones, the tree’s roots are pulled out of the ground.

The tornado emptied a trash can full of dog poop in bags and scattered them. Here’s one stuck in the fence.

One mangled bleacher set inside the twelve foot baseball field fence. Another bleacher set dragged a short distance. Trash can tipped over.

East wall of Veteran’s park ice arena collapsed. This tornado also hit Yost ice arena on campus. It hates hockey!

An EF-1 tornado passed with .15 miles from my house in Ann Arbor. We sheltered in the basement, and we did hear muffled “freight train” noises. Here’s a thread of some of the damage. Our home was untouched.

Do you have any links that explain in more detail how they're doing this?

(My writing is unlikely to reward me with fat royalty checks, but that's much better than "never.")

3 days ago 0 0 0 0

They won't. Social media engagement is measurably down the last few years. Some of that is the enshittification of the services, but some is that slop is just not compelling.

That's great news! I heard second hand about someone who was consuming a lot of AI slop in his special interest area and his spouse was trying to divert him to better quality content. It's so unappealing to me I can't understand it.

Having said all of that, I owe it to myself to carve out equivalent hours for my writing as if I had a salaried job and not worry so much about the house being perfect. The house will never reward me with fat royalty checks. 5/5

Disclaimer: I voluntarily do most of the household chores because my husband's job eats up more than 8 hours/day, which is annoying because I don't like subsidizing [big corporation] with my labor. But on the other hand that pays most of our bills, and husband does what he can. 4/5
