Was just checked out of the grocery store by a Black guy with a patch on his shirt that read “HERITAGE AMERICAN” and another patch that was half the American flag and half the union jack

I was following this over at r/LocalLLaMA back when it was not-quite-functional! It's been really cool to see this project develop over time. I recall the creator sharing an example of where they learned about an obscure past event from this LLM.

The research report functionality is a miracle for finding new studies and facts. No longer do I have to trawl through Google Scholar for hours to find five relevant studies like I used to.

But I still go and check out the studies for myself.

I found two confabulations in a research report Claude recently made for me. Both of them had a fancy looking in-text citation but no embedded citation like it usually uses. When I asked, it folded and said it had no basis for those claims.

That’s pretty bad!

It’s incredible how far they’ve come and how far they have to go. I am a heavier user of genAI and yet I don’t trust a damn thing it says. And one of my main use-cases is learning!

I mean, if I'm following you right, yeah LLMs have helped me a lot in that regard. I make heavy use of the research functionality. Learned a lot that way.

But I'm a writer, so structure and word choice means an awful lot to me on its own.

The change in low-effort writing style? It's annoying to see my own voice slip a little. Can't say it's much more than that. It doesn't come out in my focused writing since I agonize over word choice and sentence structure.

I saw it yesterday when furiously scribbling really quick notes in my journal, realizing that I was saying things like like "The Big Thing:" and "The Key Problem:" which are ways of organizing information I've never used before.

When I'm putting effort into my writing those patterns don't show up.

I've gotten a *lot* of benefit from testing the limits of LLMs. Like, so much. But I'm definitely seeing it rub off in how I write when I'm not thinking about it. So I have to expend a little more effort to make sure I'm not looking like I'm presenting slop as my own work.

"Stuff is readily accepted without any validation/thought. AI/LLMs are exacerbating this as they are not fully reliable sources of information. Its like that old saying "do you think people would just go on the internet and lie?", but now on steroids."

Current top post on r/LocalLlama is a mod post with the title "PSA: Humans are scary stupid." It's pissing on someone who posted about how amazing the new Qwens are and provided an example where it got the answer completely wrong. OP didn't check if it was correct before posting.

It's crazy that Qwen 3.5 4B has a higher GPQA Diamond benchmark score than ChatGPT 4o (76% vs 66%).

If you have a decently fast CPU you can run Qwen 3.5 4B on your computer. If you have a GPU with at least 4 GB VRAM you can definitely run it.

This technology is developing fast

Thanks to the incredible generosity of a handful of people, we’re over halfway to where I need to be. Please, if you can spare anything, even a couple of dollars, I’d be so grateful.

Hi, everyone.

I’m in a health crisis that’s keeping me out of work for two months. According to my specialists, I need those two months to get better.

I’m asking for $1005—just enough to cover rent for one month. Any amount you can pitch in will go towards keeping a roof over my head.

Anyone who’s known me knows I’ve *never* asked for help like this before. I wouldn’t be asking if I didn’t really need it.

So, please, if you want to spare anything, I’d deeply appreciate it. ❤️

Why do I have to pretend that I'm going to print something in order to save it as a PDF. Why do I have to engage in a little ruse.

And regardless of the severity of it, those living with eating disorders deserve to recover. Everyone deserves to have a relationship with food that is life-giving and not constricting.

And recovery is possible.

Eating disorders do not discriminate. They are not the sole domain of skinny white cis women (or, in the case of binge eating, fat white cis women). They, in a very real way, impact men and women, people of all body sizes, all races and ethnicities, all sexualities.

It's apparently eating disorder awareness week.

Did you know eating disorders exist? They do. And they suck.

You are now aware.
