A worker died at an Amazon warehouse in Oregon last week.
For more than an hour, workers were instructed to continue working as the man lay dead.
One worker wanted to help, but a manager told them to “Just turn around and not look. Let’s get back to work," according to @thewesternedge.bsky.social.
Among the many things I hate about privacy nihilism is that it always ignores the very real and growing pushback against these systems.

A graph that shows the rising violations of child labor laws in the US since 2015, increasing from under 2,000 per fiscal year to 6,000 in 2025.
The number of child labor violations has risen fivefold in the last 10 years, but Republicans across the US are continuing to propose and pass legislation that rolls back protections or regulations for workers under the age of 18.
"The legend of Cesar Chavez will never be the same," writes @moiradonegan.bsky.social. "But the righteousness of the trade union struggle...cannot be tarnished by Chavez’s behavior."
Interviewed the journalist who was getting death threats from polymarket gamblers to change his reporting on an Iranian missile strike. Scary stuff in here about how the intense harassment made him (for just a split second) doubt what he saw and reported. Others may not have his conviction/morals.
Like, well, pretty much everybody, the Cesar Chavez story broke @coyotemedia.org's heart.
There's so much to say about it, but @soleilho.com swung big: can we all agree to just... skip the whole hero thing entirely? www.coyotemedia.org/kill-the-her...
At a time when the right is using racialized/gendered anxieties to attack migrants/workers, the liberal response to claim moral purity by removing chavez' name while refusing to fight for the dignity of workers that dolores huerta and other survivors put before their healing is performative at best

Latest from me and @juliapowles.bsky.social for @projectsyndicate.bsky.social on the social media ban and age-checks:
It's not just that this proposal is faulty, unreliable, and unfit for purpose. It's actively harmful.

So excited to see this out in the world! @tomasgna.bsky.social historicizes the tensions between scale, compliance/trust, and governance/regulation that characterize the project of T&S ⬇️
Unfortunately, “Yo brother, legal team confirmed we can’t work with minors rn” is an instant classic
“The forces we are up against have made peace with mass death. They are treasonous to this world and its human and non-human inhabitants.”
Behind the scenes, “Meta was divided on whether protecting kids should take precedence over user growth and engagement. For years, the company only incrementally rolled out restrictive safety features, even as its own staff detailed the risks its platforms posed to children.”
Finally caught up with this great piece from @currentaffairs.bsky.social on the prediction market, which actively targets economically precarious young people. Absolutely no reason for this market to exist, let alone their ads to be everywhere

Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.
“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

Seeing Zohran instantly getting a bunch of shit done in like a week makes you realize that politicians could always do that on some level if they wanted it bad enough and very few of them actually do.
And there’s a federal version of this bill that you should tell your lawmakers to support.

Yup. Everything in this thread, up to and including the end. You don't eat around the cockroach.
In zohran's new york there will be a bidet in every bathroom
