Probation on the Brink What the Government’s Response to the Probation Crisis Tells Us

Last week the Government published a response to the scathing Public Accounts Committee report into the ongoing crisis in probation. There isn't much of any substance in the response - symbolic of the problem itself. Some thoughts from me, here: thinkingaboutprobation.substack.com/p/probation-...

Desistance in Ambridge What George Grundy’s Storyline Teaches Us About Life on Probation

In an attempt to do more on Bluesky here's a short piece I've written about the connection between Radio 4's The Archers and research on probation and desistance: thinkingaboutprobation.substack.com/p/desistance...

Would love to know what fellow Archers listeners and/or probation people think!

I thought #adolescence was brilliant but I’ve got a nagging feeling about episode 3. The more I think about it the more unethical the whole assessment felt: is this really how assessments work? Surely leaving a vulnerable child feeling abandoned purely to get the information needed is not right.

An inspection of Probation Service – Yorkshire and the Humber region

Good to see new Effective Practice Spotlights from HMI Probation being published with inspection reports.

Provides a number of examples of where probation work is done well, a nice antidote to inspection reports which bring the negatives to the fore.

We are keen to welcome people who are new to academic publishing and/or those who have experience of being under penal supervision.

I was so proud to attend my partner's book launch at @waterstones.bsky.social in Sheffield last night. Great conversation between Rachel & @helenmort.bsky.social.

IT COMES FROM THE RIVER is the story of three women bound together, in search of emancipation.
