I just got fed the CBS Evening News feed on Twitter, and here are four of the stories they’re featuring tonight.
(In case you were wondering why their ratings are tanking amid a historic news cycle.)
Just a reminder that JD Vance has been a Catholic for less time than Nacho Fries have been on the Taco Bell menu.
Opinion The Editorial Board America's income tax is progressive The rich already pay more than their fair share.
High earners shoulder an income tax burden far in excess of their proportion of the national income, while the bottom half of earners pay very little. Any conversation on changing the tax code has to start with this fundamental truth, rather than the misbegotten notion that high earners get off scot-free. Expect a lot of the 2028 presidential candidates to pretend otherwise.
Hello, I understand nothing about how super-wealthy people get tax breaks and dodges that are unavailable to ordinary Americans.
Great, we have a job for you at the Washington Post opinion page!

Fortunately, Times v Sullivan also protects journalists who misplace em dashes, as seen in the OP
The Complaint also alleges that President Trump told Defendants that the Letter was a fake before they ran the Article. President Trump argues that this allegation shows that Defendants acted with serious doubts about the truth of their reporting and, therefore, with actual malice. The Court disagrees. To establish actual malice, “a plaintiff must show the defendant deliberately avoided investigating the veracity of the statement in order to evade learning the truth.” Reed, 2025 WL 1874638, at *3. The Complaint comes nowhere close to this standard. Quite the opposite. The Article explains that, before running the story, Defendants contacted President Trump, Justice Department officials, and the FBI for comment. President Trump responded with his denial, the Justice Department did not respond at all, and the FBI declined to comment. In short, the Complaint and Article confirm that Defendants attempted to investigate. The Article also states that the WSJ reviewed the Letter. [ECF No. 35-2].13 Accordingly, President Trump’s conclusory allegation that Defendants had contradictory evidence and failed to investigate is rebutted by the Article and is insufficient to establish actual malice. See Michel, 816 F.3d at 704 (holding that plaintiff did not adequately allege malice where record “indicate[d] that the reporters conducted some outreach and engaged in due diligence”).14 13 The Complaint alleges that the Article does not explain, among other things, whether Defenda
In dismissing (without prejudice) Trump’s lawsuit vs WSJ over that Epstein birthday card, the judge shows why a reporter — asking someone for comment and quoting their response fully — is a smart legal, as well as ethical, thing to do.
Statement from Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark In response to recent events, I reaffirm that Pope Leo serves a higher authority and desires to proclaim the Gospel faithfully and advance the Church’s peaceful mission in a world deeply in need of healing. He will continue to speak clearly against war and other offenses against human dignity and to call for authentic dialogue, because the Church’s witness is grounded in the peace of Christ, not in partisan interests. Recent statements and actions by the President of the United States convey a grave misunderstanding of the Holy Father's ministry and a troubling lack of respect for the faith of millions. The graphic exploitation of sacred imagery is deeply offensive and undermines the reverence owed to what believers hold most dear.
NEW from Cardinal Tobin of Newark — one of the papal electors at the conclave that ultimately chose Pope Leo — regarding Trump's recent posts about Leo and the Jesus-like image:
Says POTUS shows a "lack of respect for the faith of millions," and calls the Jesus-like image "deeply offensive."
