So that's my short thread about how things are going since I decided I was going to work at an airline a short 18+ months ago.
Today was a long day full of questions, deployments, and meetings. I forgot to eat lunch (and dinner). But I still have a really hard time imagining myself anywhere else.
And then there's managing my own mental health. I am genuinely excited to learn about how the acquiring org works and their tech, as well as meet new incredibly smart people.
But I am also anxious about navigating a new network, current work relationships, career path, etc etc.
My first goal is making sure my team is ok & has the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge: opportunities are finally starting to pop up ~4 months into our 12 month interim contract.
This experience is tricky for everyone and we're all feeling our way through it.
Being a part of a major airline merger is a really incredible experience, but it's nothing like I thought I was ready for.
All the day-to-day complexities to literally "keep the [current] airline running" while learning about a new parent org, looking out for my team, and so much more.
Remember this? A problem we didn't have in automated speech recognition tools until OpenAI decided they were going to do away with alignment (not the kind that so-called "AI safety" people do)? And they're giving us "artificial general intelligence" any day now right?

I'm both nervous and excited that my new shoes came in the day before I leave for a trip. Seems like a risky choice but I want to believe that I chose well and they'll break in without breaking me 😅
