This worship of efficiency kills creativity. Every transcript I have, every piece of research, I go over again & again, looking for detail, pattern, illuminating anecdote. It’s not efficient. I flail sometimes! But it’s essential. It’s how I learn to tell the story to myself, so I can tell it to you

“It’s hard to believe the Royal Canadian Legion would have a policy against celebrating basic freedoms,” said Fahner.

WTAF, Royal Canadian Legion? How can this coexist with your annual Remembrance Day messages of gratitude for the freedoms so many died while fighting for? This breaks my heart.

Corner of an envelope that shows the sender as Canada Council for the Arts Public Lending Rights Program.

Special day 😎 Last year I registered my debut book, Attic Rain, with the Canada Council for the Arts Public Lending Rights Program—a way for authors to be compensated for their books that appear in libraries across the country. Thank you, love your libraries, and keep funding the arts ✌🏽 #CanLit

Home SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND COUNSELLING SERVICES Centre for Sexuality is a community-based organization delivering programs & services to support healthy sexuality across the lifespan. ...

The Legion is right about one thing, though. The Calgary Centre for Sexuality does align closely with advocacy initiatives similar to mine. Legion leadership and members who support this decision and message should check them out. Might learn something. www.centreforsexuality.ca/h

Reading Event at Calgary Legion Cancelled During Freedom to Read Week | The Writers' Union of Canada

A Freedom to Read week event featuring writers reading from banned books at a Calgary legion has been cancelled by the venue. Reasoning: “…aspects of the event conflict with Legion policy, which requires alignment with current government regulations and guidelines.”

Mad Cow Told from two points of view—a mother and her daughter—Mad Cow examines farming life in small-town Alberta, a life fourteen-year-old Allyson wants only

Great time last night reading for the North West Passages reading series, and especially great to hear the work of three other amazing Western Canadian writers. Adding Mad Cow by @alexiskienlen.bsky.social to my TBR pile. Thanks to everybody who joined in!

Time for Albertans and union workers across Canada to (notwith)stand up! Anyone still supporting the UCP needs to be called out, ridiculed, ostracized. They are not your friends. Stop playing nice with fascists. They’ll come for you eventually. Shine a light on their darkness.

Here’s to the teachers, students, union members, and members of the public rallying in Edmonton. Stand together for better schools and classrooms, labour rights, and democracy! Fight now and fight on! If friends and family support the UCP, let them hear about it. Democracy dies in silence. 🗣️✊

SINGHS IN THE RING » CIFF A ride through the legacy of Gama Singh– a Punjabi immigrant turned Stampede wrestling icon–and his son Raj, who fights to carry the family name into a new era.

Got to attend the World Premiere of Singhs in the Ring last night for #CIFF2025
An inspiring documentary about The Great Gama Singh, his family, and legacy. A great Calgarian and Canadian, a model of true strength, toughness, and humility. Check it out.

I’m too old to mosh anymore, but still love punk shows. I don’t remember seeing this level of aggression and fury in the pits in the last 25 years.

Proud to see kids in Alberta picking up the torch and channeling their rage into positivity. These are the voices we should be listening to.
