A guy standing on a ladder in his front yard. He is holding a cup of coffee and waving to a passing neighbor. A tree in the front yard is standing next to the man and also drinking a cup of coffee. The cup says Handsome Ron lives here. The text reads: What you do on a ladder in the summer. That’s none of our business! We’re not here to tell you where to drink your coffee. We’re here to tell you to set your ladder up on a firm, flat surface and to make sure you have a spotter.
In many cases, we'd prefer not to know.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

🤯 getting final grades back and realizing that I’m graduating in May with a degree in astrophysics, done while doing life for 8.5 years… and Magna Cum Laude.

Actually, correction, I do tell them to ask me rather than just flipping do it.

I’m jealous. Sometimes I’m still telling people that maybe they should apply OS patches that have piled up for 3 years, or to *not* ask to save all the passwords in the vault to a text file “for safe keeping” 🤦🏻♀️

A teddy bear on a window ledge overlooking a grey Saint Mary’s University.
Finished my last exam of my undergrad. This has taken almost 10 years to do.
Teddy is unsure what to do with his time.

I’m soooooo happy to live next to an airport with a pre clearance terminal! I’m a dual citizen but even then - problems? Nvm, going home.

A whiteboard diagram of many things that go wrong when trying to image a star. On the left hand side, there is a column starting with the title “Get Fucked!” And details a few challenges such as distance, wave-particle duality, SNR ratios and the speed of light changes in a medium. On the main section there is an orange line going diagonally from a star at the top left corner, through the centre with a crude telescope drawing saying “starlight bucket contraption” and then to the bottom right with a square and a scribble and the caption “WTF is this??” - along the path there are statements or questions in green about how one might try to image a star, and then blue saying how this goes wrong. Then off the blue there are correction ideas and then more blue saying how this also goes wrong
Intro to observational astronomy: the only intro course I’ve taken that’s a 4000-level course. The math isn’t hard, but it’s a course in how physics will tell you to fuck off at every opportunity. I made a diagram to help me understand sources of pain.

In a compulsory research class I stood before undergrads who clearly didn't want to be there, nor saw the need for it. I began class by asking them to imagine that the next professional they sought help from didn't think researching best practice really mattered. They got my point.

My kid will watch Minecraft videos in any language because he doesn’t care about the words. W/E, hearing the cadence of language helps passively gain intuition for language, and I can study.
Except today he found a French video & I’m bilingual. I’m now learning vocab instead of CCDs 😭🤦🏻♀️

And generally maybe don’t criticize others for mispronouncing words if it’s a genuine mistake. Love, someone with sensory processing challenges.

At this point in writing reports for the end of semester: if it isn't a .tex doc, and in Overleaf, it can rot in hell where it belongs.

A small teddy bear in front of a black SUV with the back window smashed in and bent bike rack
It appears my tire held up great! The rest of the car after being rear ended? Ugh. Less so. This trip back to Halifax was destined to be main character energy.

A tire with a flat section. The flat tire sank to the rims on the ground.

Teddy found a spot to wait in a tire
Teddy thanks @oktire.bsky.social for helping us get home this weekend after a particularly spicy rock flattened our tire to the rim!

We should probably teach more about slide rules and why logarithms make way more fucking sense as a thing we use when that concept is explained.

Omg the culture is sometimes unbearable, and entry level - sheesh - the worst. Anyone who survives in this field despite all of that I respect.

‘Hey’ came before ‘hi,’ and ‘hi' came before ‘hello.’
‘Hi’ is most likely a variant of ‘hey.’
‘Hello’ is not related to either.
Goodbye.
