Tonight I say good bye to my sabbatical. I’m back on the clock for Loyola Monday. It’s been a great break after years of administrative duties. I’ll be posting more on my work in targeted violence, terrorism prevention, and mental health. A new set of dry erase markers is ready for the classroom.

The New Orleans and Las Vegas attacks show stark media bias: Jabbar's act labeled terrorism, Livelsberger's a "mental health tragedy." Our research finds Muslim-perpetrated attacks receive more coverage and are more often framed as ideological.

“…there is no way for MAGA to get what it wants — the elimination or serious reduction of the population of people they don't like — without violence.”
This isn’t just MAGA: far-right fantasies, everywhere, are predicated on violence as both a means and end in itself

Prepping for 2 courses in the spring semester. One on family intervention, one on mental health diagnoses. If you were about to graduate with your MSW, what would you want to know about working with families? What would you find most useful? Asking for a friend 😃
As a fellow Chicagoan, that’s alright by me.
It’s a great book, important read!
Yes, I usually just like to browse and find what I need/want without to much help. I will sometimes ask the owner if they have a certain author I collect just to make sure I don’t miss something. I do see owners helping others, which is great.
Thank you!
The end of my semester sabbatical is quickly approaching. I’ll be back in the classroom in January. It’s been almost 7 years since I’ve been primarily in the classroom due to my admin work. Excited to wind up my career as a teacher. It’s why I choose this career.
I have several favorite Indy bookstores. They all are well organized, topic areas marked, and alphabetical by author. They have a good range of prices. The setting really invites long browsing sessions with chairs and no loud music.
Three absolute must reads if you’re interested in violence, targeted violence, and terrorism. Each of these shaped my thinking and approach to this space.
Seeing many people saying they want to move to a blue state now. Friendly reminder, Illinois is blue because of Chicago. However Trump carried a huge number of precincts in the city. Most of the rest of the state tends to be red. Democrats have so much work to do to regain blue spaces.
Slowly migrating from that other place. Currently involved in a CP3 grant here in Illinois, work with Prevention Practitioners Network, Strong Cities North America. Striving to bring more social workers and mental health practitioners into the TVTP space.
